Besides being harsh, will bleach effect the absorbency of the dipes or inserts? How about PUL- will it cause wicking?
(Don't worry, I don't use bleach regularly, I was just wondering...)

I dunno about using it on dipes but I did use it once on my inserts, just a tad though because they were smelling funny. It didn't seem to hurt them at all.

I think it would be fine to use a little bleach every once in a while. Many ppl here use it occassionally on their hemp to help w/ odors. I don't think I would use it on PUL though.

It is my understanding that is can damage the life of PUL, it weakens the laminate layer. It also isn't usually recommended for use with cloth diapers because the harshness of the chemical breaks down the natural fibers and again shortening the life of your diapers. I haven't heard of it affecting absorbency just weakening the fabric.

I don't think the odd time of using a small amount of it would be totally detrimental but regular use would be. Make sense?

Oh and be careful if you have bright colors or prints... it will damage those too.
