Okay, I seem to have to add about 1 tbs of bleach to my diapers every other wash to keep them from getting stinky. I use prefolds, but I do have 2 fuzzi bunz that I use at night. Do you think they are fine in there with bleach? Does anyone else bleach their diapers or have a better solution for the stink? I wash every other day, I do a cold/cold wash (1/2 cup baking soda) and rinse (1 tbs Bleach), Hot wash (1/8-1/4 cup Country Save & 5 drops tea tree oil), cold/cold wash & rinse. I feel like I'm washing them thoroughly, so I'm not sure where the stink comes in???

Nope, it's a top loading machine. I've tried to vary the amount of detergent, but if I use too little there are no suds at all. I've also stripped the diapers (washed in hot water until no suds). I'd rather not use bleach at all, but that was what finally got the stink out of them. Has anyone ever used Bac-out? Does it work? I guess I haven't tried that yet.

Hmmm...I guess if that little amount of bleach is the only thing doign the trick, I would stick with it. I can't use bio-kleen, or bac out on my dipes because the enzymes give my kids rashes.

Have you tried different detergents?

I use 1tbs of dawn dish soap and 1/4 -1/3 cup of arm and hammer super washing soda. Never a stinky diaper with this formula and I've been using it over a year now with very hard well water.

I would think that bleaching that often will really break down the diapers faster. I wonder if your TTO is causing build up (just b/c it's an oil)???

I've had good luck using Dawn once a month to keep stink away.

Hi!

Personally I woudl not use tea tree oil (you should not need it anyway, and it isn't antibacterial at those concentrations) or any kind of oil. I would not use baking soda.

What I did was use the detergent in the cold wash, adn then do a PLAIN hot wash after. Helpt reduce buildup. If you do have buildup I strongly suggest using RLR to see if it helps. It just solved my problems! (I'm about to go post that in the other stink thread) -j

I'm wondering where you got that information on the TTO.

Everything I've ever read said one drop is a very powerful antibacterial. I did a paper on it for my biology class last summer.
