This past saturday I had a miscarraige. Following about 5 days of light bleeding and light cramping I passed some blood clots and the baby. I was 8 weeks. I had heavy bleeding just for a half hour or so just after and then it slowed the following two days the bleeding just seemed moderate and the cramping was getting less. I went to the doctor for an exam monday afternoon (yesterday) and he didn't do anything but talk and ask questions, no physical exam, no ultrasound, no Rhogam even though I am Rh negative. This morning I woke up to heavier bleeding and more clots similar to what it was like just after I passed the first clots and baby. My cramps seem worse than yesterday as well.

Its only been about 2 1/2 days, should I be worried. It just seemed like things were slowing down and now it has gotten worse. Has anyone experienced something similar and not needed a D and C?

Thanks!

Hi Heidi,
I am sorry we have both found our way to this board. It could be that you had some tissue left that you needed to pass and thats why the cramping picked up again. I know with my first mc, it took several days and didnt happen all at once. My second happened all at once and was actually pretty quick. This last one I just opted to have the D & C more for emotional reasons than anything else. I dont think it would harm to just call your OB to see what they say. In my opinion they should be keeping an eye on you anyway during this process as you want to make sure you pass everything. I know they can also give you a medication that can also aid in this as well. I hope your healing comes quick and I again am sorry for your loss.

Dear Heidi

I agree with PP, probably you had some lining that you needed to shed. One thing my MW told me was that cramping with associated bleeding is normal and fine. Bleeding with no cramping may possibly be a cause for worry.

Blessings on you and this journey to release your little one. I hope you heal quickly.

xoxo

I'm very sorry for your loss.

In my natural m/c's I have found the bleeding would pick up again, then often times I would pass a clot and then things would slow right back down. As long as you have no fever or severe pain, it's probably fine.

However did you talk to your dr. about the rhogam shot. I'd be concerned, if you planned on trying again, that you didn't get one. I thought that was standard protocol for RH- mamas.

Thanks ladies. I did call my doctor this morning, he was of a similar mind... it's nice to know that some of you had similar bleeding patterns. It's hard, because I just want it to be over... the worse I feel physically the harder it is to keep what happened off my mind. That and I have an instinct to completely reorganize and scour the house, which cannot be done until im more recovered. My poor DH is struggeling with this too and he needs to continue to work, AND take care of me. Anyways, trying my best over here!

I think there is some controversy over the neccisity of Rhogam this early on, my doctor doesnt think I need it. I'd rather be safe than sorry though! Dont know what to do about that.

Do you think your doctor would consider a microdose?

From what I understand, sensitization from first trimester losses occurs at a very low rate - 2-3%. That doesn't mean Rhogam is unnecessary - I still had it. My doctors (at the ER) were not concerned that it be done, but gave me a full regular dose after I requested it.

According to my OB, the microdose is standard dosing for women who have losses in the first tri now. Perhaps your OB would be more interested in doing that?

As to the bleeding - mine did that over the course of a few days. I spotted on Fri/Sat. Sunday, I passed the gestational sac and a lot of clots, but by Sun afternoon, I'd all but finished bleeding. Monday I was spotting. Monday afternoon, I passed a large clump of something else (placenta? Lining? I don't know). I had light bleeding for 7 days after that and had a few days of next to nothing followed by a heavier day with clots.
