i'm 12days pp and the blood had started to turn brown...though i still have general uterine discomfort (not pain or cramping per se, but i *notice* my uterus still)...i just went for a walk (about 1 mile) and started gushing dark red blood again.

should i be concerned??

It's your body telling you that you're not ready for a one mile walk and to take it easy again.

My bleeding had greatly diminished--gone to yellowish, in fact--at 2 weeks pp. But that was the same point my mom went home and I went back to full(ish) responsibility for laundry, picking up dd from daycare, cooking, etc.

The bleeding has increased and gone reddish brown. I rest when I can.
phooey. it felt so great to be outside in the real world. i am still a little sore though (my body, not my perineum) so i suppose i should take that as a cue too and just chill.

maybe just rocking on the porch swing will be enough "out in the real world" for me. LOL

I don't mean to hijack...but yellowish is normal? Good, I was starting to wonder...

I kept meaning to throw out the what to expect book and never did. Yes, yellowish is normal as the lochia diminishes.

Gross, but normal.

Yellow? Never heard of it being yellow. hmmm. interesting.

I know if its bright red, then yeah your body is telling you to stop, slow down, you're doing way too much! Take it easy IncaMama.

Good! I was really starting to get weirded out at the combination of colors on my pads... some bright red combined with that sickly yellow that bruises turn as they heal.

and TMI over...

I'm still just at red, but I remember having yellow last time.

More TMI...

What you do need to be paying attention to is smell...I know, gross, right... I had a PP infection last time that I think we could've caught sooner if I'd been more observant to that.
When I was discharged I was told that once it turns brown it should not turn back to red again. I agree with PP that it probably means that you are doing too much. If it doesn't slow down I'd call your doctor
.

i'd say you need to take it easy. I'm 12 days pp today and went to the grocery store and dd's 2 wk check up and i'm exhausted. i was shocked at how fatigued 3 hours light activity made me. i also notice that i bleed more if dd has a really heavy nursing session. If you have any large clots or the heavy bleeding continues you should call your dr./mw.

I experienced this too around 2 weeks pp. I think that I was a little too excited to get out and walk without pain(as compared to my last few months of pregnancy). But my brown spotting quickly became heavy red with a few clots. Luckily my mom was still with us to force me to slow down.
Now I'm almost 5 wks pp and have been back to brown spotting for over a week. It is hard to slow down, but remember you need to take care of yourself too!

It's hard to slow down and take it easy - I know! I've been doing the "two-step" also: flow slowing down and turning brown and yellow, then back to dark red with clots after doing some laundry or playing too much with DS1 or something. So frustrating!
:

TMI: Do any of you have "mucousy" bloody discharge going on? I mean VERY mucousy. I had some pelvic separation and still feel a little swollen in the tissue around the symphysis pubis, and that area includes a very "sensitive" organ
that's been uncomfortably hyperstimulated in the past week and a half or so. Could the two be linked?

So sorry for hijacking your post Incamama. Try resting more if you can. I like the idea of limiting myself to one (or two
) things a day and letting the rest slide. Can we do it?

I was told that that is normal, because the uterus contracts and heals in starts and stops, but that yes, activity will cause some of the blood vessels to open back up, so you can undo healing when you do too much, so get some rest.

Not sure really how to describe it, sorry...hmmm... I'll try.

Basically it is the smell of infection. My MW described it as smelling 'bad', but I didn't really notice it, so obviously not horrible. The nurse I saw confirmed that I had a PP infection by just sniffing a pad.

Other signs I had were feeling 'off' (but I just thought I'd overdone), and having a rising fundal height (if you can feel it you can keep an eye on that yourself). I think a fever can also be a sign.

I'm taking Vit C and making sure to eat well, hoping to avoid that this time!

The smell: Does not smell like blood. Smells like something rotten a bit.

Fever is definitely a sign- fever with increased bleeding= call your health care provider.
Anybody else get sudden gushes? My pad will be dry for hours, then totally fill w/ blood in a matter of minutes. I was lucky I didn't ruin the sofa on Saturday.

that would happen to me the first week pp...mostly correlating w/dd bfing
yeah that's what i experience...barely any blood flow and then WHOOSH a big gush of blood...then nothing again.
