I had blood in my urine and ended up with a severe kidney infection - was hospitalized at 28 weeks - worst pain of my life......along with the antibiotics I'd advise starting probiotic therapy - as much for your digestive system as for the babies.

Yep. I had a few in earlier pregnancies- for some reason I seem to be carrying this babe higher? Try cranberry extract and shedloads of water (at least a 2l bottle a day.)
The only good news I can think of is that I get thrush after antibiotics less during pregnancy than at any other time in my life- I'd strongly recommend the probiotics, though.

Oh sweetie! Drinks LOTS of cranberry juice, it really does work. I have never taken anti-biotics for a bladder infection - only cranberry juice, and it works for me everytime. Not saying you shouldn't take your antibiotics, I think you should for sure, but the cranberry juice will help a LOT.

But it has to be unsweetened cranberry juice, right? Bleh.

That sounds like a wicked bladder infection. Good luck. Last time I had one, there was a pill that I only had to take one of, but I don't know if it's possible to take it while pregnant. It really did the job though, and then I worked on prevention. There was a thread a while back I think about preventing bladder infections, yeah???

Lily,
It does suck, it really does - I too was very worried about the antibiotic - and they thought I would have to be on it for the remainder of my pregnancy...luckily I was given the all-clear by the urologist after a month, but I still worry about the affects of the abx on baby in utero. My midwife seems to think the probiotic therapy should help rememdy at least some of the effects though - so I'm glad about that.

She (MW) also had me take vit c, uva ursi (some say not rec. in pregnancy - but my case was severe enough she felt benefits outweighed drawbacks) and I'm still taking cranberry capsules.

Watch that lower back pain - that is where I started the day I was hospitalized....I'm a homebirther, natural pregnancy kind of person - and I ended up with four days of narcotics. Take GOOD care of yourself and rest, so that you can take good care of your baby too....
