a few weeks ago I had a small, red/purplish, painful bump on my nipple that even bled a little while pumping. it eventually went away, but now I have the same thing on the opposite nipple, and there are two, one directly on the nipple and one on the visible part of the inside of the nipple.
what are these? they hurt a lot. I EP and can't turn the suction on the pump down because I get less milk when I do that, and then clogged ducts and mastitis. there are no other symptoms and the only spots that hurt are right where these bumps are.

try this link from kellymom...

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/nipplebleb.html

and read a little ways down to where it actually addresses the blood blister issue. the link from the site didn't help (it apparently was too old) but it'll give you a direction at least! i had the same issue a couple of times with my son, who was a very aggressive nurser, and was able to successfully modify his latch to correct.

hang in there, and good luck!!
