I feel like I should know this already, but I don't...

What the heck is block feeding? I keep seeing the term pop up.

TIA!

It's when you are trying to tone your supply down - like when you have an oversupply - and you nurse on one side only for a certain block of time. So let's say you are doing blockfeeding in 5 hour increments - baby is hungry at 12 - you nurse on the left side. He's hungry again at 1:30 and 3:30 - you nurse on the left side both times. Then he's hungry at 5 - you then nurse on the right side.

Does that make sense? It's hard to explain!

I thought it was bad to allow one breast to become very engorged by not using it and only using the other?

I'm confused. Hmmmm... Sorry - seems my brain has
away...

I think I kind of get it now...

Not that I don't have enough milk, but over-abundance can't be that bad, can it?

Gives the opportunity to pump and store/donate!

Oh, it can be BAD. Some of us prefer to avoid pumping all together
not to mention when baby is caught in the fire hose and sputtering and coughing.
Not to mention foremilk/hindmilk issues.

It can be a real problem.

Yeah, that's true.

I guess what I was thinking is that having too much is better than not having enough!

I had overabundance with #1, and my dd had trouble with foremilk/hindmilk imbalance, which caused terrible colic. So yeah, it can be bad. Just a different kind of bad from undersupply. Probably more easily solved? I haven't had undersupply so I can't compare, but that would be my guess.

You know, I never realized that there could be foremilk/hindmilk issues! How would you know if this is causing problems for your LO? (Besides overabundance)

Tummy upset, gas, green poop, hungry very often, lack of weight gain
