OK, so here I am entering my 3rd week of CDing my itty bitty newborns bum And I am *loving* it!!! She is still so tiny (just weighed in @ 7lb even on friday). So we have been strickly trifolding/bikini twist for trimness between the legs - otherwise she looks like she is riding a horse

Well everything as been contained thus far.... But yesterday we had our first blowout. Nothing escaped the prorap though! So I examined the diaper, and realized that it was a little gappy around the right leg - where the poop escaped. So today I have been *extra careful* with my trifolded bikini twist. Well, we had ANOTHER blow out!!! I swear it was snug (ok, as snug as a new to CD mommy of an itty bitty newborn can do). What am I doing wrong???? Is the bikini twist just not good for BM poop? If I was good as sewing I would turn all her prefolds into fitteds (per the pattern on Dasharni's page) but I can't!!!

I have to say it is still better than sposies that shoot the poo up their little backs. But I don't like having to go thru covers so quick - or poop being all over my little princess.

Please help!!!

Someone else will probably be of more help on this topic, but I can't seem to get the bikini twist down correctly, either. It's always gapping at the legs. Have you tried fitted diapers, like Kissaluvs size 0? Or the Angel Wing fold? That works well for me.

No I haven't tried any fitted diapers. They would have been an option before my DH QUIT HIS JOB!!!!

Are you making sure you don't twist too far back (don't cover the anus with the twist, bring it forward a bit.
Once you get the left and right side of the wings snappied, do you pull the front up one last time before snappi-ing the bottom leg to make sure it is snug?
Even if you are doing these things, I find blowouts into the covers inevitable, sorry! Especially the longer the baby has been wearing the diaper. Once the prefold gets wet, the fibers stretch and cause the legs to gape open, even though they were tight when dry. But the tighter/better the fit to start, the less will escape.

Yes, it is true . . . you can get it nice and snug at the start, have the little 'poo' area contained in the back, the twist in the right spot and everything, but after a bit of wear . . . and some pee . . . it does extend the diaper (sags a bit) which draws it away from the legs a tad.
Both Meredith and Kenny tend to poop and then pee, so we do good with the bikini twist. Well, Mer is potty trained now, but before then . . . we used it on her a good bit as well.
