And I just started buying their stuff, because they don't test on animals or little boys' foreskins.

I'm horribly saddened and will never set foot inside one again.

(And, I just spent $40 in there last week. Grrrr...)

okay, i have a problem with the thread title, becase nestle did not buy the body shop, loreal did...that thread header makes us here at mdc look as bad as the sensationalistic media....
unless there is some detail of it that the thread starter knows that the article is not covering....i won't negate that possibility
BUT the idea that we don't want to spend our dollars at the body shop because we don't want nestle to have any of our moolah is a largely valid mesage which makes me so sad to hear. i really don't buy much from them anymore, but i did work for the body shop at one time and really loved that company. i even did a paper on anita's visionary and still ethical capitalism in college. hmph. so sad it is....

I also worked for TBS for several years and I loved the company. I'm very sad to hear about this change.

So The Body Shop was bought by L'Oreal in which Nestles owns a 26% stake, so yes, buying from the Body Shop (once the deal goes through) will line Nestles pockets. L'Oreal itself does not sound like a great company according to the article in the link but it sounds like they are planning on learning from The Body Shop. Either way, with Nestles owning a large chunk of it, I won't be shopping there anymore.

crap. My bosses (Lush) were bidding for it, as far as I heard: but they wouldn't have been able to match L'oreal's offer.

Here's what I don't understand-TBS is a company that prides itself on the fact that they don't test on animals.
Loreal is a company that either directly or indirectly (the company that owns them) tests on animals.
So WHY would they allow such a sale?
DH would say I'm being naive-but about business. But this bugs me.
I don't buy from the body shop anyways because even though they don't test on animals, they still use chemicals in their products. (I'm not 100% positive if they have chemicals in ALL products but the ones that I've seen did and I've seen alot cause my Aunt used to sell their products.)

TBS was my very first job...kinda makes me sad that they turned this corner even though I rarely shopped there anymore.

Ooh, can you please share the recipe? Thanks!

I'm so upset about TBS 'selling out' to L'Oreal. It's just plain wrong.

I am right here with you! They don't test on animals and they have some really cool business pratices in the way they worked with small groups of people to obtain some of thier ingredients BUT I never was a real customer because alot of the products have yucky stuff in it. So no big loss to me personaly. It is still disappointing on some level though.
