Can any of you recommend some good books about parenting (or advocating for, teaching, supporting, etc.) gifted kids?

This isn't officially released for a while but it is better than anything else I've seen on the topic.

Creative Homeschooling for Smart Families by Lisa Rivero. Great resources even if you're not homeschooling. Check out www.hoagiesgifted.org, there are lists of great books for parents, http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/gifted_books.htm
advice on advocating at school, etc.
Good luck!

I just found this link: http://www.giftedbooks.com

There was a review in the Duke Gifted Letter about this new book from them: A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children, by James T. Webb, Janet L. Gore, Edward R. Amend, and Arlene R. DeVries

The book addresses, among other things, discipline, and I am curious what they have to say about that. Anyone read it yet?

I have read the book. It is worth buying. A lot of what is in the book is stuff that certainly you may have read elsewhere (is there much new left to say in this world?) but the bring in a lot of good stuff. I found the parts about perfectionism, anxiety, stress, worry, etc. to be particularly good. I found the book to be in line with the gentle approaches used by our family.

This was the first book that I read about gifted children - and probably it is the overall best book that I've read on giftedness. It was a big eye opener for me.

At the end of the book, there is a chapter on one mother's journey with her PG son and her friend's journey with her HG son (or vice versa on the giftedness levels) which was especially illuminating on the challenges and struggles parents of gifted children face.

Amazon's saying it's available for pre-order toward release date of Mar 01/07?

Oops - I was thinking about this book by James T. Webb:
Guiding the Gifted Child: A Practical Source for Parents and Teachers
http://www.amazon.com/Guiding-Gifted...e=UTF8&s=books

The new book has a different set of co-authors and since the book I read was published in 1989, I bet this is an updated version. I wonder how different it will be? If it's anything like the book above, it will be great.

Sorry for my confusion -- the title was so similar in my mind.

Now wouldn't that be a dream job?! Unfortunately, I don't think my credentials to do this would come anywhere close!

I just finished Losing Our Minds by D. Ruf, and In some ways, she defines giftedness differently than I've seen it elsewhere, but she interviewed around 200 kids, and all the personal stories were great, as well as her recommendations sections. Here is her site:

http://www.educationaloptions.com/

I just read this and found it interesting, Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnosis of Gifted Children and Adults: Adhd, Bipolar<Ocd, Asperger's, Depression, and Other Disorders.

I'm reading Genius Denied by Jan and Bob Davidson right now. I'm only a couple chapter into so I can't say much other than so far so good. Anyone else read it?
