I didn't have an actual Boppy, but I had a nursing pillow a friend lent me, which had a strap that fastened around the back. I found the nursing pillow to be essential, especially in the early months.

I hated the Boppy. It was not firm enough and my baby would fall inbetween it and me. A couple weeks in I got the My Brest Friend pillow and it was great. It goes all the way around you and gives you a little back support to help you sit up. It's flatter and wider so it's easier to lay the baby on. It clips around you so it fits tight. If you ever watch that show on TLC with the 18 kids the mom has one and even walks around with it on, nursing!

I had the LeachCo pillow and loved/love it. For me, I couldn't imagine nursing for those first few months without it. I ended up with a c/s and it really helped me get LO settled in comfortably. I did the first week without it and then SIL sent it to me and I was happy, happy, happy.

Now that she's sitting up on her own, I also use it as a prop for her in case she falls over. It gently catches her and I like it that she's not bopping her head all the time.

Oh yes, and also I would nurse her to sleep on it and then pick everything up, her and pillow, and she would sleep for a long time on her pillow in her co-sleeper. It snuggled around her and smelled like me, so it was a hit. FWIW, the manufacturer probably doesn't recommend that particular use though.

Used it a ton w/ DD1, a little less w/ DS, and now rarely w/ DD2. My boobs got saggier with each baby, because I didn't properly support them during pregnancy and while nursing
: Now baby can lay across my lap and nurse comfortably if I slouch (not good, I know)

I'd recommend getting one, or using some sort of support

I was so sure I was going to love it, I got two. And I did use it for a long time. But looking back, i think it definately contributed to our latch issues. We had a horrendous first 3 months nursing, and I think it would have gotten better faster had I considered that the boppy wasn't helping. BUT, I'm the only person I've ever met (
) who didn't love theirs, and I'm unsure enough that I'm hanging onto it for #2 just to make sure.

If you can possibly afford it, you want to get a Boppy AND a My Breast Friend.

The Boppy is useful for other things than nursing- it wasn't even designed for nursing- like of course propping your baby for sitting/tummy lounging. The My Breast Friend is much more conducive to good posture and supporting the baby while nursing... I'm always fighting to pull the Boppy back around me, b/c it inches out from under the baby as she wiggles, and then she falls into the gap between it and me...

Many people who love their Boppy for nursing haven't tried a dedicated nursing pillow.

From talking to other moms (my own un-scientific survey), the general concensus(?) is smaller-chested women prefer the boppy while larger-chested woman prefer the firmer support of my breast friend. Just wanted to throw that out there. Good luck!

I'm regularly a D-cup, so I am going to do some research into the my breast friend and see what I come up with! Thanks ladies! You're all a lot of help!

I hated the Boppy, it did not work for me at all, but I do have larger breasts. I use the Boppy for other things besides nursing. My kids now think it's a raft when they play their "ship sinking" game.

Yes!

I used the MBF when DD was new and tiny and we were still learning how to BF. It was fantastic! I didn't have to support her weight because the MBF did it- I could then use my hands to position her and my breast, drink a glass of water, play with her toes...
Also, when she was tiny, she'd slide down between the Boppy and me- didn't have that issue at all with the MBF.

Once she got bigger and we knew what we were doing, I found the MBF to be a bit of a hassle. Now, when I do use a pillow, the Boppy is great. Quick to put on and take off, and multi-purpose.

Our local baby/child consignment store always has Boppys (Boppies?), but I've never seen a MBF. Either people hang on to them, or snap them up quickly. I suspect both!
