Sometimes- the doldrum of bedtime nursing drives me crazy. I want to sneak away but if I try it tooo soon she'll wake up. If I relax too much I fall asleep. How do you stay those boring bits of parenthood.

I train mine to go to sleep by the light and pecking of my laptop. What do you think I am doing now. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/shy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="innocent"> I didn't do this with my first, and the years of laying there nursing was so tedious, that I did it differently with #2 and 3. I work some, play around here, it keeps me entertained and awake!

When Dd was young I was able to nurse her to sleep while watching tv, but once she became a toddler it didn't work anymore. She needed a completely dark and quiet room with me lying next to her on the bed in order to fall asleep. I'm not looking forward to that time with Ds. It's SO boring! Maybe he'll be different.

I either nurse/rock him to sleep in front of the computer or while watching TV. The computer chair we use has a nice bounce to it. I can't get the proper "rock" in any other seat of the house. lol

I read by the light of a dim lamp - not great for my eyes, but pretty good for my sanity <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Yeah, I have a little book lamp. My dh suggested a headlamp. DD's a bit too busy for tv or ipod at 19 months- she'd find the earbuds and start playing.

I used to be able to do it in front of the tv or with the lamp on but now ds is too distractable. Once he is getting pretty settled I have a book light that I can use. Occasionally he'll try to reach for it but I never let him & he seems to accept this restriction & goes back to nursing & falling asleep.

My DS almost always falls asleep in just minutes while nursing, and I can leave right away. BUT, once in a while he doesn't fall asleep while nursing, and then I will grab my laptop and surf the internet while he tosses/turns/crawls/acts crazy and finally crashes <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/sleeping.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="sleeping">

You mean it's not just me? Everyone I've discussed this with IRL thinks I'm nuts. "What, you don't just dump her in the crib and walk out?"<br><br>
I bore her to sleep, discussing our day and what we'll do tomorrow. And I've figured out the best nursing angle for holding the iPhone behind her head so I can read e-books.

If I nurse in my chair, I play wordsmith on the tivo or surf the web on the wii. Not really what my mom imagined when she bought it for me. But... it allows me a small relief when I am overwhelmed by nursing!
