I think we have settled on girls names for the most part, but I'm really struggling with boy names. It's always one or the other. Typically, it seems like I struggle on the gender we are not having....so hoping that's the case this time, cause then we'd be tied up. LOL<br><br>
Anyway, my FIL passed away from cancer almost a year and a half ago. We want to honor him by using his name, which is Larry. But, after sitting with it, I just don't think I can be comfortable calling my child by my father-in-law's name. So, I want to use it for a middle name instead, but I'm struggling to come up with anything that works. His name was just Larry, not Lawrence.<br><br>
I prefer traditional, but presently uncommon, names. A saint's name is a plus. Some that have been tossed around: Julian, Sebastian, Xavier...<br>
Anybody got anything?

That's all the male saints I can think of off the top of my head. I have a grandfather who was named Larry but went by Laz - as in Lazarus. (not sure why - maybe a childhood accident or something?)<br><br>
Maybe Lazarus would be a link for you?

No, those are great! You've picked several of our other boys names/middle names. LOL I'm just not sure anything really fits with Larry as a middle name.

Interesting. Lazarus is a cool name. I'm not sure dh's family would get the connection though.<br><br>
My dh's grandfather's name was Harold, but he went by Jim. I'm not sure anyone knows the reasoning behind that one, either. I think there was something about that generation. ?!?

LOL at milosmomma...I'm no help either but I thought that was just too funny! Larry is an interesting name, it works but it doesn't as a middle name, it flows but it doesn't...I bet it will click with something, or your right and your gender is not a boy...that's how it was with dd, we instantly loved our name pick, but went back and forth on the boys names we liked. Also Lawrence will be the middle name for us if it's a boy, great grandpa's 1st name, grandpa and dads middle...and to top it up I have an uncle Lawrence <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Are you at all familiar with St. Lawrence's story of martyrdom? It's a little gruesome, but he is widely known as a unique sense of humor. Does your FIL have a middle name that's more usable? I can see how Larry would be tricky.<br><br>
Lawrence is currently our boy middle name, too; he's DH's patron saint. We do a saint name (or three <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment">) for everyone, as well. I love the three you've tossed around!

I think Wayne is actually a great middle name and would work with other names more easily than Larry. Or, you could go with Larry as the first name but call your child by his middle name.<br><br>
We were completely settled on a girl name, but then found out we are having a boy. We are also using my FIL's name, but it will be either his first or middle name as a middle name for our child. Both are nice, rare, one syllable names that work well for a middle name. We are having trouble finding just the right first name, though. I think we are going to narrow down to two or three and then wait until we meet him to see what fits best.

I think we've settled on Charles Larry. We'll call him Charlie. If we end up with twin boys, his brother will be Xavier James.<br><br>
