my neighbor has some grape vines that are just going crazy. i have been wanting to plant some but just haven't had any $$$ for anything. i have broken the branches of creeping charlies and geraniums and they will root. does anyone know if a grapevine will do this? know of other plants that will? i just love the idea of doing this instead of buying a new plant everytime.

Yes, you can propagate grapes by cuttings. And they actually usually do better if you don't use a rooting hormone or willow water. You can also propagate by layering (making a small nick in the middle of a healthy vine and burying it. After a while it will have rooted and you can dig it up and replant.) I think cuttings are the most common and best way to propagate, though. But this isn't really the right time of year- grapes (and most perennials) should be cut for propagation when they are dormant. However, it probably won't hurt to give it a try, as long as you realize you may have to try again in the late fall/ early winter.
