So...I've known since before I knew I was pregnant that I had this lump in my left breast. I've got pretty fibrocystic breasts to start with, but this one is bigger and just...more insistent about letting me know it's there. Also, it's growing.

My midwife confirmed that it's a cyst last week, and said she'd keep an eye on it throughout the rest of the pregnancy, but I'm going to my MD (not something I do much, usually I see an ND) for a medical 2nd opinion.

I know women get a lot of weirdo things that happen to their breasts during pregnancy. Since I'm also still nursing DS, I'm maybe 85% confident that it's nothing, but...you know, that 15% doubt leaves me a little queasy.

Anyone else have breast cysts during pregnancy, uh, ever? The info I'm finding on my own seems to be all one camp (it's nothing) or the other (it's terrible). FEH!

I haven't had breast cysts in pregnancy, but I did have a large one before I became pregnant with DD #1. It turned out to be nothing, but I feel for you having to "wait and see". For me my family doctor just ordered a breast ultrasound to take a look at it. It ended up being nothing and it went away in a few months on its own.

I hope you get answers and the answers are good ones!

When I was nursing ds#1 several years ago (he must have been 18mo about) I had a lump and got it checked out. I had an ultrasound and it turned out to be a galactocele (a milk filled cyst). I would wonder because you are still nursing if it is related to that more than being pregnant. FWIW I am a very cyst prone person. Find em everywhere. Hope you get a satisfactory answer soon.

Hello Rstaz,

I think it is great that you are listening to your instincts and getting a second opinion. I always tell my clients if they have an inkling at all that they are not sure it is ok, it's best to get it checked further.

My aunt was a breast cancer survivor and had a lump that was different characteristically from the hard, immovable ones that are common in a cancerous tumor. Her doc said it was a cyst but she wasn't sure and got a second opinion, and sure enough the beast was back. Fortunately she caught it early enough.

More than likely it is nothing but I think it never hurts to be sure! I am sending you good breast vibes! Good luck and keep us posted. Paige

PS Do you do breast massage on a regular basis? Doing this on a regular basis can be very good for the breasts...keeping everying thing following..lymph, milk, circulation, energy. I must admit, I have not been doing it lately because of the sore boobs!

Thanks mamas! I need the encouragement. Don't want to be a freaker, but you know, don't want to ignore early signs of breast cancer either.

I don't massage my breasts. At least, not since I was pg with DS (so, uh, 3+ years...?) I'll try it. Thanks again!

So...I went for a breast ultrasound, and everything is probably fine. However, it's CREEPY to see a breast tumor on an ultrasound. It makes things look VERY DIRE when they probably aren't. She put the ultrasound wand on my breast and INSTANTLY you could see this big, black area. That's it! This big black tumor is growing inside my nice pink earth mama breasts!

But it's probably benign. It's got all the right markers for a benign growth, although it's a big 'un. They are sending the images to another lab for a 2nd opinion. I'll know by Friday (I hope) whether to break out the pink ribbons.

Wish me well....
