Has anyone had a swollen gland under their arm with a breast infection? I have one and it is painful and the breast infection seems to be cleared up but not the swollen gland. I am afraid i might have cancer or something but the doc says that cancer is not painful...still it is scary! If anyone elsehas had this please let me know!

Have you tried hot and/or cold compresses? I have had a few times where I was so engorged that I was swollen and lumpy all the way into my armpits. This doesn't sound like the same thing though. It definately doesn't sound like cancer either (and your doctor doesn't seem to be worried about cancer). Try to do the compresses and massage it. Give it a few days. Good luck.

I had the beginnings of an infection about 2 months ago. When I went to my doc, she was the one who found the swollen gland under my arm. I had not realized that the pain I had was also stemming from that. Anyway, she recommended hot compresses and massage just as you would with a plugged duct in the breast. That is what I did, and it all eventually went away (I was also prescribed meds for the infection.)

Ive been fighting several episodes of mastitis since january and yes I had one big node in my armpit. I thought about cancer too, the doctor said it was normal for that node to be like that. It stayed like that for four months!
So no worries.

if it is super hard and tender it is possible that it is an abcess
i had one when i was pregnant with ds2 and nursing ds1
sometimes they respond to the antibiotics for infection and sometimes they need massage too.
mine needed surgery...uggh
they did an ultrasound to make sure it wasn't a cyst..mine was under my armpit/breast area and turned from plugged duct to infection to abcess in two days
it was just a staph infection (i had cracked nipples from thrush and the infection came in and the one spot didn't respond to the breast infection antibiotics)

just a thought, if it feels real real bad and won't go away and if it is something serious like an abcess please pm me and i will share more of my surgery experience.

i don't want to be known as the medical melodrama mom

but NO cancer is not supposed to hurt and the alternatives are much less grim.
