I have no clue how to organize something like that, but after reading the Seattle thread it sounds like a great idea! I'd love to be involved in something here. I think the more cities we are able to get this out to, the better. What do you other PDX mama's think?

I might be able to make it down there. There is tons of park space by the river...oohh you should do it!

hi, count me in. I could be the official doula liasion
I think that we would need the following info:

someone to plan place (i.e. do we need a permit?) - I think that Pioneer Courthouse Square or the Park Blocks at PSU would be good - they have a woman's resource center, maybe they would sponsor it.

people to get the word out

people to notifiy press

ok, I am back. I also think that we should contact LLL, NMC (I have contacts there), Birthingway Midwifery School and all the AP organizations in PDX.

What about at the Portland Farmers Market? If the NMC/WRC sponsored a booth as a non-profit?

I hesitate to call myself (as a mama somewhere called her kid) "The Cruise Director of Life", but I do have a bit of a gift for organizing, and I'd like to help. (I'm not nursing any longer, so this is one way I can participate!)

Anyhoo, BF Awareness Day is June 27 which, at least by my calculations, is Monday after next. Is there a Farmers Market on Mondays? I thought the big kahuna one was on Saturdays in downtown Portland. So are we talking about doing something on a Saturday ("Every Day is Breastfeeding Awareness Day") or finding a venue on the 27th? Both?

Either way, I hopefully would be able to come and help wrangle older, non-nursing sibs while the crucial lactating is in progress.

Whoops! Gotta go! Nap time seems to be over!

Just wanted to let you know that we just picked a day for the Seattle Brestfeeding Awareness Day. It would be really great if we could both rally on the same day, but you may need a little more time planning and gathering support. We needed to kinda respond to what's been happening in our local media (see Ken Schram threads) and this was the soonest we thought we could pull it together. Like I said in my pp I would love to come and support you, as I too called portland home once.

If you need any advice, I'd love to help

That's so cool. I was in Portland this weekend and I nursed Dani in a hotel lobby - and I swear - these guys turned around and walked by 3 times - I just about died of embarassment.

You go girls! I hope that you can do something to raise awareness so that next time, I don't have guys walking by 3 times to get an extra glace.
