How does a person become a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor? What exactly does a person with this job do? Where do they work?

You can work for WIC, in a hosptial setting or work for yourself.
Thanks for responding! Is anyone here a breast feeding counselor? I'd like to hear what the job is like.

I'm not going back to work anytime soon, but I'm not going to be a SAHM forever. Eventually, I will stop having babies and my babies will grow up.
I do it pretty much thru a LLL group so I don't charge. They usually refer the working moms to me,
i was through wic for awhile, but quit right before dd was born.
I do it for the Baltimore County WIC Program. Some of the things I do are:
* setting up breastfeeding info tables at WIC check pickups
* teaching breastfeeding classes
* answering general breastfeeding questions for pg moms
* helping bf'ing moms who have problems
* helping moms get pumps if they have to go to work
* decorating office bulletin boards for bf'ing info
* mailing pg moms info about why to breastfeed

If you want to become one for WIC, call your local health department and ask if they have any openings and when the next training is.
Thank you! Thank you! Appreciate the info and hearing your experiences.
