DD is nearly 6 mos old. I don't know if she's teething or congested because she's fighting something.

How would you breastfeed, and get LO to sleep with their noses all clogged up?? If she is getting sick, anything I can give her/do to help her fight off the bug?

We do warm baths and we use the Boogie Stealer Sucky Thingy (bulb syringe).

Poor baby, that's rough! Mine is stuffy too right now, she just took a bath w/daddy and is nursing much better after a brief boogie stealing session.

Saline nasal drops, purchased or homemade, and a bulb suction device to get the loosened mucous out (we called it the "snot-sucker") helped us through our dd's first winter, when she was sick with one cold after another.

We're dealing with this too, dd has a cold. We have little flasks of saline solution here that you can squirt into the nose. They also work like a nasal aspirator so after the solution has been squirted, it sucks out the loosened mucous.

In the absence of these amazing little flasks, I'd do what Aubergine68 did.

What works just as well as saline, are a few drops of EBM up the nose. If you can get your hands on a seringe without the needle, it works really well to flush things out. Then wait a minute or two for the dried up stuff to be loosened up and succion it out (I HATE the bulb thingy so I got a "baby nose blow" http://www.bronchio.net/docs/mbnoticeen.pdf).

Also, nursing in a steamy bathroom can help with the higher up congestion, (DD's nose starts running when we get back from a walk outside in the cold), and then finally, nursing side-lying seems to help. I've heard recommendations regarding "nursing uphill" but my DD has never liked it or been able to nurse for long like that.

I do as others with the saline, but I also try to nurse her more upright so that it can drain...of course, that's after I've done the saline and suction routine.

I would take vitamin C to my bowel tolerance (sodium ascorbate), it was a lot, actually, but when my LO was only nursing (before solids, I mean) that got enough into him that his colds were really mild and his nose never got stuffy enough that he had trouble nursing. He had lots of colds, so we got lots of practice.
But it was a big difference from kiddo #1, it was just a cold air humidifier and the suction bulb, and that didn't work all that great for us.

how "far up" do u squirt the bm? would it work if u just drip it in? does it have to be freshly expressed bm??
how clean do you keep the bulb?

silly questions, i know

I'd squirt the bm or saline as far up as I gently could. ETA with a syringe, if I couldn't get the bm to squirt from the nipple.

I keep the bulb as clean as possible, but wouldn't share it with other children, even siblings, because I don't think you can really get them clean.

Squirt some milk in her nose, worked well for DD1. You can also burn peppermint oil in water on your stove - it clears the sinuses realllllllly well.
