I just want to say that I never said I didnt have support I didnt go into detail but now I will.

I came here all intentions on breastfeeding totally wanting it was like heck yeah its free to do it its best for the booger its convenient ok so this is what happened

After 19 hours of NATURAL LABOR NO MEDS NO NOTHING I got up off the stirrups and walked over to my twin bed that I was in labor with. I immediately started breastfeeding just told my hubby that the lady would have to show me how. So she did booger ate some then... I got back to my room he ate pretty much the entire time I was there they told me about trying to get the entire nipple and around in there ok so that worked but everytime he didnt get latched they werent there to help me everytime which I can understand so I had a latching issue my nipples were so sore from him not latching properly. So anyways after going home I continued breastfeeding I will admit I didnt know that they were supposed to breastfeed 22 hours out of 24 so I was getting a bit frustrated I thought I was feeling him up or it wasnt enough. So I go home right ok mind you its my mother in law that I cant talk to cause of the language barrier and the father in law they would constantly be popping in when I was feeding cause I was always feeding and Im pretty modest that was a private moment that I was sharing with my new son. I felt uncomfortable with them staring at me while I was feeding especially his father. That never stopped and thats hubbys faught for not explaining to them how I felt. So booger was eating booby juice (the reason I call it that cause on the March Mommas forum I post on they called it that and I thought It was cute) so anyways I thought he wasnt getting enough so I told my dh to go buy some formula and we would do both so we did and then my nipples ended up scabbed over and peeling off engorged I guess is what yall call it. So after using cranberrry oil cause I couldnt find any nipple cream in Armenia they healed after a month and I still had milk yippee I thought I will try this again so I tried to breastfeed him and he wouldnt take the booby I bought a pump and it didnt suck milk out it just wanted to rip my nipple off. I didnt think it was realistic to squeeze milk out of the nipple cause it was coming out at such a slow pace. I mean drip drip. Anyways so little man ended up on straight formula. I didnt know there were such things as Lactation Consultants which im sure that they dont even have here. I have lived here in Armenia which I consider a 3rd world country for 9 months I came here 7 months pregnant if I would of known the situation I would of stayed in America but I wanted to be with my husband so I moved here.

EVC If you have money in this country you can live a descent life im not going to lie those people with hummer are business owners I know cause my husband sells Porsches for a living however he only makes 200 bucks a month. We dont have money we live off of his salary a month and the electric bill pretty much wipes our money out with other necessities. THats why I was so intent on breastfeeding.

I am tonight going to buy the Advance 2 formula if I can find it.

ARmenia is not a hygenic country there is trash all over the streets sick animals walking the streets people smoke over ur food when cooking it waitresses are eating and then touching your plate. I mean COme on I know about this Ive been here for 9 months EVC most likely didnt eat at the places I ate at I cant afford Cactus I can afford 100 dram lamajohs

Anyways I have an anger towards this country because of the simple fact I see how parents raise there children 10 year olds are smoking and drinking at the table and playing with matches I dont want my son raised in this country

About the HIpp formula this was my perspective since he has been on HIPP he has the terrrible gassy problems all I know is that when I was in America and with the children I saw on formula whether it be similac or enfamil they didnt have problems like my wee one this gas problem is out of control.

So my hubby just informed me that if we want goats milk we have to drive to village which is about an hour and a half away and its not canned or bagged its right out of the goats bobby so I dont know about that however My hubby is going to go look for the similac 2 today.

One other thing Id like to point out nothing is consistent in this country I had to go to about 4 different pharmacys and this is walking to these places just to find formula yes Armenia is very pro breastfeeding and im sure if I had the at home support I would of been ok but I didnt and theres nothing I can change about that now.

Im sorry so many people got offended I wasnt bashing donor milk I said we dont have that if we did and I would of known about it then I would of gotton it.

I just said I wasnt going to ask the neighbor for her juice. If they are a donor then I would and it wouldnt be my neighbor anyways Im not going to explain on that one yah know what I mean

I am totally PRO BREASTFEEDING MATERIAL but unfortunately I didnt know what I know now.

Thanks for all the positive help that I got I really Appreciate and thanks to all the help thru private messaging.

I cant wait to get back to the states to have another booger!!

I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble breastfeeding. I understand the problems in the beginning- it took 6 weeks before I could nurse without toe-curling pain (nipples cracked, bleeding, thought they were going to come off, the whole 9 yards)

Would you consider trying to nurse your babe again? If you put him to the breast and can get him to latch you will begin making milk again. You may or may not be able to ever get a full supply at this time, but some is better than none. Also if you look on kellymom there are instructions for hand expressing milk if you don't like pumping.

best of luck,

Even if there is no milk left, the suckling action of your baby will cause you to make some eventually. Try putting some drops of formula on your nipples, so that baby will associate them with food.

I wish I knew a way for you to get a SNS. Do you know about these? I know some mamas who have had to supplement, but their babies never had a bottle!

SNS is "supplemental nursing system" it is a way for you to get suckling on your breast and for your DC to get formula at the same time. This will help you obtain a milk supply again. Breast milk may his gas if it is a reaction to the formula, it is easier to digest. Have you tried gas extracting techniques such as bicycling his legs?

Oh Mandy
I feel so bad for you....I know how hard this is for you... coming here for help and then getting shit for it.

It's great you're still here...it shows you really care for your baby.

When I had my first I didn't have adequate breast feeding support either and ended up supplementing and then quitting after only 4 months. If only I had mdc back then. (but then I'd have to deal with everyone giving me a hard time!) You're a good mom...just keep doing what you're doing, you will sort out the tummy troubles of your little one eventually.

If you really wanted to try to nurse again ( no pressure ) you can start again any time. You don't have to know how much milk you have. YOu could have none and that would be fine. You just nurse him. Just let him suck as much as he/you like as many times a day as you like. The more he nurses the more milk you will eventually make.

Some women do this. I think it is very awesome.

Goodluck Mandy....in whatever you do.

Love and Light. Angela

Sorry I never adressed this issue.

I know this is a long shot but would you be able to find chiropractic care for your baby?? This is something that I find very valuable when ironing out the wrinkles (so to speek) when it comes to newborns and tummy troubles.

Also try what the others have mentioned...switching formulas, trying soy or rice or lactose free. your dh going for goats milk too may help....just try and do them one at a time for at least 10 days to know for sure.

Yeah I tried the bycycling thing Ive tried everything Ive been told to try which is about everything im about to try a new formula.

I have to talk to my husband to get him to talk to his parents about just walking in whenever I hate that they just stare at me and my hubby doesnt want to hurt there feelings but they really made me feel uncomfortable his mom even just walks in when im in the shower there is no since of privacy around here.

If I were to start trying again what should I make my diet to prepare for this I know apple juice is good hell I drank like 10 liters of if to try to get milk when I was feeding.

I dont know if im going to do it yet though id like to get his gas under control before I get into a new adventure.

We will see but right now my main focus is getting rid of or helping his gas I just can bare to see him cry while hes sleeping and the pain waking him up. Him crying so hard and then farting. I really think its the formula though and if its not ill know soon by switching to similac.

Thanks PinkMilk

A baby chiropractor hummmm I will have to check on that

The goats milk thing cant happen cause they dont sell it here you can get it from the village that is and hour and a half a way and I dont know if a public bus goes that far plus its not canned or bagged it comes from the village people.

We dont have soy and no lactose free but Im going to try the similac as soon as my hubbys finds the market that had it we went there last nite but they only had the step one and he needs 2

It must be hard where you live to not have lots of formula options. I read the other post that options was a problem for you. Here they shove it down your throat! I got so much free formula in the mail... I'm sorry for you. I don't know if you could get it sent to you where you are, but maybe you could order some of the specialty formulas online and get them sent to you? But as the PP said, make sure to stick with one for a while to see the difference. I hope your DS feels better soon! My DS had lots of trouble with gas for the first two months and it was really rough!

Yeah formula is hard here they have HIpp, Nestle, Nestogen, and NIDO

Nestogen was the first one he was on that made him constipated and he didnt poop so we changed to HIpp that seemed to work fine except for the gasssssss

NEstle and Nido all pharmacists here say dont buy so we dont buy and I just saw similac in a market so that sounded familiar so we will try that.

getting something sent here would be iffy cause mail here is not reliable like I said when I was in the USA I sent 2 packages 2 week mail and they got here 4 months later

I got my w2s in July

Plus most places will not ship to Armenia dont know why

The reason its so hard to get things in this country is cause they are in blockade with all the bordering countries

There is no way out of here except by Plane!

I just hope he finds that formula today or he better be ready to go for a serious walk tonight to look for it somewhere else.

I also went looking for prune juice last nite and the dang ladies kept giving me apple juice so I told ARam to just ask for the purple juice and then it was plum I said grrrr I gotta learn this language

I need a tutur hubbys too cheap if I could find one I would pay them to tutor me a professional tutor that would make things so much easier living here

hUbby says he can tutor me but its hard they have there own alphabet its like 36 characters its harddd

I cant wait to go back home to the states

I'm sorry you are having a hard time, and that you haven't had the support you needed.

I also wanted to let you know, that prunes are dried plums, so plum juice would work too.

You don't need to have a special diet to try nursing again, just make sure to drink lots of water. Oatmeal might help too!

I had some plum puree but that didnt seem to help so someone told me to get some prune juice they dont have a prune juice here except for like baby juice so im still looking for that like I said you got to look all over the place for one thing

Its not like America where every pharmacy and grocery store is consistent

Like the pps said, even if you don't have milk yet, you will start making some if you can get the breast stimulated. I would expect that every bit of breastmilk you can get in him would help his tummy issues. It's so hard when a little one is hurting and you can't fix it.

I wonder if he's having some gut issues. Perhaps when he's eating more solids, try yogurt. It has probiotics that will help any gut issues.

I never used an actual SNS, but I had a little make shift one for awhile there. It was just a syringe with a skinny tube on it that I slipped into the corner of my babes mouth and slowly let the formula leak into his mouth while he was nursing. Do you think you could find something that you could use like that????

Raw goat's milk is the best...however if you are really unsure about the cleanliness then you can pasteurize it yourself by heating it to 160 degrees for 30 minutes. Perhaps you could have a look at their animals and milking stands to get an idea of how sanitary they are.
You can buy a few gallons at a time since it is far away -- just keep most of it in the freezer. It will last 3+ months in a normal freezer. HTH
