I know that there are probably previous threads about this, but you should see how many random, non-related threads came up when I typed in a search.

I am looking for information about this. What I have read so far, says that it's ok. That there is slight risk of preterm labor, and that the older baby might not get enough nutrients from the milk.

Had my yearly OB appt. today. She was asking about my current form of birth control. She proceeded to tell me that if I did end up pregnant, I'd have to wean 4 month old ds. I about fell off the table. I never heard such a thing. I think the doctors in that practice are a bit old fashioned and missing some current information or something. Might be time for me to find a new doc eh?

Jack Newman's Myth #2

Quote:
A woman who becomes pregnant must stop breastfeeding.
Not true! If the mother and child desire, breastfeeding can continue. Some continue nursing the older child even after delivery of the new baby. Many women do decide to stop nursing when they become pregnant because their nipples are sore, or for other reasons, but there is no rush or medical necessity to do so. In fact, there are often good reasons to continue. The milk supply will likely decrease during pregnancy, but if the baby is taking other foods, this is not a usually a problem. However, some babies will stop breastfeeding if the milk supply is low.

Oh crap! I guess I must have only 2 kids then! I have nursed through 3 pregnancies. In fact, I am right now! I have no history of preterm labor, quite the opposite in fact. I watch my vitamins carefully and watch my babes for signs of not getting enough. Never had a problem!

I recommend Adventures In Tandem Nursing. Has lots of great nursing through pregnancy info!

I was told by my OB that I had to wean ds (who was 18 months at the time) before I became 20 weeks pregnant. Though my research, I found relatively no risks in a normal pregnancy.
