Tell him I think he's freaking awesome and I love that he trusted his instincts.

My twins were breech and born at home and instincts sure are an awesome thing esp. at birth.

Obviously he didn't know that he should have just attempted a c-section.

My dh and I saw him on Leno and thought he was great! I had read about the birth and was reluctant to watch the segment, as everyone always gives credit to the person catching the baby rather than to the woman giving birth! But this man does deserve some credit because in this case the woman needed some help getting the baby out. But he (and the mom and baby!) did a great job! Plus he tells a great story! He was very entertaining. And when Leno asked him why he let a pregnant woman work on his shrimp boat he said, "It isn't a disease." Yay!! Tell him congrats! And if he ever writes up the story, I'd love to post it on my unassisted birth site.
How did I know that was coming...You know I am all for breastfeeding, but it really really annoys me when there is such a wonderful and heartwarming story on MDC and someone has to rain on the parade because *gasp* they were waiting with bottles :

I know! How was it possible, with no OB or knife involved?? Miraculous!

I must say, *20-25 minutes* of CPR on the baby before it started breathing must have been extremely scary for all involved- kudos to this man. Thank goodness the baby is all right.

The mom didnt even wait for the bottles, the articles said "The babys first bottle was a boiled soy sauce bottle with a rubber shrimpers glove for a nipple" -- that was what was weird for me. Like, what did they PUT IN IT and why not just wait ?

I loved that Leno clip.

He's a hero. Great instincts with the feet, shoulders and pulling down when the head was stuck. AND he did CPR for 20 minutes with cord intact. BRAVO!!!

I'm sorry, but it IS really, really sad that the woman couldn't just put the baby to her breast, as nature intended.

When I heard the part on the news about them fashioning a baby bottle out of a soy sauce bottle, like it was so inventive and great, it made me want to vomit.

Nature didn't intend for women to labor and give birth on a boat. But they improvised. And if she wasn't planning on breastfeeding then the soy sauce bottle is pretty darn inventive.

FWIW, I really wish y'all would drop the bottle feeding thing.

It doesn't make sense if they were bottle feeding for convenience. It does make sense if there was a medical issue preventing breastfeeding. You never know, and in this case, the trouble they went to in making a bottle would seem to be evidence that breastfeeding was, for whatever reason, not an option.
