britax car seat & toys, etc.

we bought the Britax car seat (marathon) and are loving it (well, me and the babe are). my question is what do other mamas do that go directly to the convertible. the other ones have the handle that you can hang toys down from but the Britax does not have that. i put velcro on the top of the car and hung some small soft toys from there, but i know some of you are more creative than me. please share what you do to entertain your babe.

Good Idea!

I bought a bunch of thoes connecting rings and clip dd's fav doll to the side of the seat (or a part of her harness)

I did the same in the bucket b/c my buckets booklet said not to leave the bar up, but to put it back while in the car.
We have a mirror that DD likes to look in, and I can see it from my rearview mirror as well. It attaches to the back seat. My DD doesn't really play with anything yet, just a blanket back there, but with DS we gave him toys to hold. We had this octopus that has different toys on each leg, so that would keep him occupied, and it was big enough that it wouldn't drop down in the seat beside him where he couldn't reach.

It's my understanding that the infant carseats with the handles are supposed to be down, not up, as the handle helps to reinforce the seat in a collision. Am I the only one who puts the handle down?
Hello Mama!
Here is a different suggestion. I have a Britax as well!
If you have those hangar holders on each side of your car above the door (what the heck are they called?! Some call them the "Oh Sh--" handles!) then you can tie a cord/rope from one to the other. That is what we plan to do for our upcoming car trip...
We are going to use 550 cord and tie a big string in a loop... putting several clipped toys onto the rope. He'll be able to bat at them, look at them, and pull on them.
Hope this helps.
well, i have this cute little toy that clips onto car seats, etc. that goes up and around (kind of like the handle on the bucket) but the Britax side is just too big for it, kwim???
some great ideas...since ds2 is also in the back seat, the rope from the handles wont work, but i am going to think of a combination of that to get it to go over the top of the car instead of straight across the car to accomodate both kiddos. when ds2 is in the car, i really dont have to worry about entertainment but he's not always with us (schooll, at his dads, etc.). i may splurge for one of those things that go on the back of the seat but id rather make something than buy something new.
keep the ideas coming..im loving some of these!

That's my understanding as well, except for the Graco Snugride we bought, which does allow the handle to be either entirely up or entirely down while riding in a car.

That said, we never hung anything from the handle at all. We had a mirror for him to look at, and even now if there are two parents in the car, one of us is in back with him.

But I guess since he never got used to toys hanging in front of him, it was easy for him to be in the Roundabout (switched at 4 months b/c he was so tall) without any toys there...maybe I'm not that helpful here.

The handle position when driving, needs to be as your car seat manual specifies. In years past, driving with the car seat handle down was the universal recommendation. As new car seats have emerged on the market (and some have as many as 5 handle position locations...the newer Graco Snugride seats come automatically to my mind), the rules have changed for some of them. Refer to the owner's manual for verification.

I recommend soft toys and books. Remember that anything in your vehicle has the potential to become a projectile in the event of a crash. This includes the mirrors. It is also not recommended to hang anything from a car seat handle. Use all after market parts at your own risk (the mirror is an example). They are not recommended.
