There was a thread a while back on this but I couldn't find it.

Guinevere had two bug bites on her arm after playing outside last week. I assume they're mosquito bites but don't know for sure. One of them has totally faded, but the other one has gotten redder and looks a bit enflamed -- the middle is slightly raised, as if there might be some fluid underneath.

I've been keeping it clean and putting breastmilk on it, but it hasn't faded yet. And it's been over a week now (more like a week and a half really).

Any suggestions as to what I should do? It's not a bulls-eye shape -- just red and smaller than a dime. She's not scratching at it or anything -- it just looks bad. I haven't put any creams or anything on it, but my bug bites usually just fade away in a day or two if I don't scratch them, so I'm starting to get a little concerned because hers hasn't.

*gentle bump*

It's still there. The breastmilk isn't doing anything it seems, and the raised part is still very red. The outer area is pink still. Should I be worried? I don't think it looks like a bull's eye but now I'm getting a little concerned.

Thanks!

I don't know that I can't tell you for sure what kind of bite that is but I can sympathize with you.....my son has been eaten up by I don't know what...he has maybe 50 bites or so all over his body and I'm not sure what it is....red bugs, chiggers, fire ants, mites of some kind but I feel so bad for him...Anyway, if you say the bite is weepy and swollen I would put some calomine lotion on it, benadryl if you think there may be some kind of allergic reaction, oatmeal paste to dry it out, or an antihistamine of some kind....I know that it is scary when welts like that show up your baby's sweet skin but most insect bites just cause itching...sorry I can't help more, but I do know how you feel..

It's not weepy -- not it feels hard in the middle actually. I did googling and it looks like it might be a chigger bite. Since the chiggers fall off after about 4 days, the suggestion is to use diaper cream. So I put some Burts Bees cream on it but she did NOT like that at all. I wonder if it burned

I've got some Boudreaux Butt Paste and will try it next. I just don't know what it could be but am worried about the whole lyme disease thing, even though ti doesn't look like a bull's eye, I don't think?

ETA: Nevermind. It's definitely not Lyme Disease -- apparently the tick has to be attached for 48 hours and since I never even saw a tick on her arm, it definitely isn't Lyme. Thank God. Okay I'll stop fretting so much...
