Bullied at school

How do you get your kid to stand up for themself at school? This is the 2nd week of first grade. Ds (6) is getting his feet stomped on, choked in the bathroom at hand washing time, and pushed out of the way in line. He is so overwhelmed and very passive. He is a REALLY gentle natured boy and I just don't want him to be picked on. It almost reminds me of the weak pup of the pack syndrome. Is there anything I can do?

Tell the teachers to pay more attention!!! At that age, it's going to be hard for him to stand up for himself and he should have people supporting him and watching out for him. How is all this happening without an adult noticing?

I have a feeling I'll be going through this with my own son too and I really don't have any other answers.... wish I did.
I talked to her today and she said shes on it. I asked her if she needed any parent volunteers I'd help when she needed one. I anticipate a interesting year because her class is really full and there are a lot of boys. I love the fact that he doesn't start fights but he will just stand there while the kids get rough.
