Help! DD was born much smaller than anticipated (6lb 6oz), and is too tiny for the infant prefolds I bought. I also bought 6 bumGenius diapers, but they swallow her up AND she leaks. Does anyone know the correct way to fit a small newborn in the bumGenius diapers? I'm sure they'd work better if I could figure out how to properly wrap her up. In the meantime, I'm using disposables, and we'd really like to get her out of those ASAP. Maybe I should buy something else until she grows?

I ended up ordering preemie prefolds and covers for my ds from Green Mountain Diapers -- they have preemie packages, and it comes the next day! They worked really well for at least a month, and now we still use the dipes for spitup cloths or doublers.

Our DD was small too and the BG would have been way too big for her at first. We had great luck with XS FuzziBunz, which were great except for having to stuff/unstuff (I don't like pockets actually, but they did fit her wonderfully right from the start).

Does CottonBabies have a phone number you could call and ask? I am sure they'd be happy to suggest the best way to put the BG on a newborn. You could always email them as well, but of course you have to wait for a response that way.

We do have a phone number you can call with questions... 888-332-2243.

To put a bG! on a newborn, use a microfiber doubler inside as the insert, put the baby in the diaper, folding down the front over the velcro strip to make room for the umbilical cord. Then fasten the tabs over the top of the folded down area. Once the umbilical cord falls off, there is no need to fold down the front. As long as a bumGenius! is stuffed with a doubler, it is not too bulky for an average-size newborn.

For a teeny-tiny newborn, we'd go with what everybody else is recommending -- preemie prefolds and preemie diaper covers.
