Bumgenius question

We used the bumgenius for the first time to day. I can't seem to get the top panel to lay flat. Am I doing something wrong? The suede cloth inner seemed to fold over so that it wicked onto Carter's clothes. The cotton babies insert was definitely soaked after a couple of hours, but I don't think that was the problem. I'm used to using a trifolded prefold and Bummis SWW and it never happens with those so I think I must not have the technique right. I just have 1 or 2 pockets for sitters but want to be able to show them how to put it on, lol. Also, do you push the insert all the way to the front, if so, isn't if difficult to do up the diaper? I don't know why I'm finding this so hard! I think they will be great once I get the little quirks figured out.

We've had this problem too. Here's how I fixed it:

Solution A - Works well only if I'm putting on the BG:
~When stuffing, insert the insert only to the top of the velcro panel. When putting the diaper on, fold the extra fabric above the velcro panel toward your baby's belly, so the soft velcro panel is right at the top front of the diaper. Fasten securely, making sure to put the scratchy velcro tabs on the lower 1/2 of the velcro panel to avoid scratching baby's belly. The problem is, my DH never remembers to do this, and I'm sure DSs daycare providers wouldn't either.

Solution B - Works if your baby is big enough (about 15lb):
~The suedecloth rolling out is only a problem on the lower rise settings, because on those settings, there's more length of suedecloth than outer material. Unsnap all the snaps and the suedecloth no longer rolls out. I didn't think the BG would fit my 3mo DS on the largest rise setting, but it does because the leg elastic is so great and my DS is big for his age (~17lb and 26", I'd guess). I also find it much easier to stuff on the biggest rise setting!

Good luck

Thank you so much for your reply. I agree it works better on the biggest setting. My son is 4 months old and around 19 lbs and about the same length as your son. I do find that a lot of diapers seem really short in the rise anyways, but I would have thought he would be at the medium setting at this point. I guess not!

The BumGenius elastic is really amazing, because it also fits my 40lb, 41 inch 3yo on the longest rise setting! I did not think it would fit my infant on that setting, but we've been using them that way for several days and had perfect containment of several huge BF poo explosions

Wow, thanks! I know with my boys, both have fit diapers completely differently. Of course, we were out of diapers for quite a while since he is 4 1/2 years old and I found I had forgotten the little tricks to make things fit well!
