I'm a newbie to CDing (so forgive me if this is a silly question!) and trying to prewash everything before LO arrives. I ordered 6 BumGenius AIOs from jilliansdrawers. I'm a bit confused by their washing directions. They say:

Quote:

Wash one time on a hot cycle with detergent and dry in the dryer before use. All unbleached and hemp itmes must be prewashed separately from these diapers! Never use fabric softener, "baby" detergents such as Dreft, Free and Clear detergents, or petroleum based diaper rash creams with these diapers! These will coat the fleece, causing it to repel, making your diapers leak.

Now I'm confused because I had planned on using either All or Purex Free and Clear detergents on all our clothes to avoid the chemicals and dyes of regular detergents. : What should I wash the BumGenius AIOs with then?

I use Tide :, but I think a lot of mamas use Allen's or Charlie's.

I really like this chart http://pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoices.htm. I use Arm & Hammer for Sensative skin on my BG's.

I use cheapie store-brand detergent on mine. But I have used free and clear types with no trouble at all, on all kinds of cloth diapers including my Bum Genius.

I've also used free and clear and haven't had repelling problems.

That is an awesome site. I have the Purex F&C which I had planned on using and that site seems to be big fans of, so it threw me for a loop when the instructions said not to. I'm glad some of you have had no problems using it. I think for this first wash, I'll just have to stick with it then until I can get to the store and buy one of the other brands.

Thanks!

I used Allens because I bought some to try, but I used to use Purex F&C with no problems at all! When I run out of Allens I'll go back to it because it was much cheaper. I have heard of problems with All F&C though!

What's your water like?

We have very hard water, and after various experimentation, I use regular Purex and 1/4 cup Calgon during an extra rinse cycle (with our BG 2.0). The only detergent I found that doesn't cause repelling after a while was Tide, and le babe's butt has problems with Tide. But the Calgon usually keeps the repelling to a minimum, and about once a month I do an overnight soak in Dawn to get rid of anything grease/mineral/detergent-wise from the pockets.

I like Arm and Hammer essentials it has a water softener right in the formula, and we have VERY hard water. I haven't had ANY problems since using this. It's cheap, and you need very little of it. Less than other detergents. Works great for us.

I've tried many F&C with problems. I don't like any of them.
