i haven't checked my cervix since ttc-ing 3 years ago, but all of a sudden checked today. my af is due today or tomorrow and i was trying to decide whether to isert my diva cup for overnight, just in case.

there is a small painless bump on the side. i googled a bit, and it appears it could a be a harmless cyst, or a polyp, or a cancerous growth. i haven't had a pap in 5 years.

i *vaguely* remember finding a bump like this when ttc-ing #1 and pretty much ignoring it (based on some advice i bet) and i'm pretty sure i remember it went away.

is this something i should make an appt for ASAP? or can i wait a bit and see if resolves?

It can also just be scarring from birth, if you delivered vaginally. My mw said that after pushing a baby through your cervix, it never looks the same.

okay, now i am freaking out a bit. i tried to check one more time, and i'm having difficulties figuring out whether it is round or not. this likely means it is not round. it seems to be the same density as the rest of the cervix, but it is raised...

could be scarring, i guess. i am starting to think i need to make an appointment, but we still don't have a family dr here (we recently moved), and i guess i need to see a dr before a referral? and i've never even been to a ob/gyn -- i just saw my regular family dr, and his nurse did the pap smears and pelvics (and a midwife for the birth).

this is so nervewrecking. i will try to check again tomorrow, with a clear mind, without my kids running around.

thanks for the responses.

I was trying to check my cervix once, after one of my babies, can't remember if I was preggo or not, but I also felt a weird bump. I am QUEEN of anxiety, if I get a bump, it's a cancerous tumor, if I have a headache, brain tumor, etc.

I went to my mw & she did a pelvic & said it was scarring, no biggie.

Make an appt just to ease your mind, but try not to worry. Is it your cervical opening that you're feeling?

I found a similar bump on mine and when I called the doctor they were not alarmed. Since I didn't have any pain or irregular bleeding they scheduled a non-emergent checkup a few weeks out. My doctor did a quick check and said it was a normal, Nabothian cyst--she said it's basically a cervical tissue overgrowth that happens after childbirth.

you see, i am worried that i am too laid back and will miss something major thinking, eh, just scarring. it is by the cervical opening and up the side.

thanks for the reassurances.

thanks. this is probably what it is. i will schedule an appointment for the pap test, i have been thinking to do it for a while, and then i will ask too.

i'm feeling a bit better now. i vaguely remember my midwife saying just that, even without checking. maybe instead of worrying about the bump, i should worry about my memory loss? (two smilies seem appropriate her 1. 2. )

Best to get it checked out, even if it's probably nothing to worry about. The only time I've had a bump on my cervix is when I had a genital wart (from HPV) there.
