I'm sorta happy and I'm sorta sad. I've been sleeping with my 2 girls (4 yrs old and 2 yrs old) in a big bed since my youngest was born - she has never slept in a crib or regular bed.

Now they have decided together that they want bunk beds - we just got them today and they are SO excited. They can't wait to sleep in them "all by myself" (my oldest said). The last few nights I've been sorta testing them by not laying down with them when they went to bed....and they were fine going to sleep without me.
So bunk beds it is.

But But But....there's no room for ME!!!
:
I know they will still want me to sleep with them some nights, so i'm not sure how we are going to do this - I think i will just lay on a mattress on a floor in their room till I know they are ok.

Anyone else transitioning from cosleeping to independent sleeping like this? I'm happy that this is a natural happy transition for them, but sad that its all coming down to the end of an era. It feels so natural for me to sleep with both of them tucked under each arm at night, this is going to be so weird!

Of course, they will always be welcome in my bed - even when they are 30.

My kids are almost the same age as yours and anxiously awaiting their bunk beds (it's been ordered at the store and will arrive in a few weeks), they're really excited about it. I've gotten one of those fold-out mattress things for me to sleep on in their room if they need me there.
Luckily I'll have a new baby to keep me company (besides DH of course) in a few months.

Well, Day one worked out so-so. Then my eldest dreamt that a spider was in her bed and refused to sleep up there. Day two was a little bit nuts - the three of us squeezed into the lower (single) bunk.
On Day three, i told my eldest that if she didn't want to sleep up in the upper bunk alone, we would take down the bunkbeds and put them together and we can all sleep in one bed together again. She didn't like that idea at all, so we "sprayed" for spiders and she fell asleep a-ok.

Right now I have a cot set up beside the lower bunk. Everyone seems happy with the set up so far, but I hate not having BOTH of them beside me. Boo. At least they are happy though, and everyone seems to be getting good sleeps.
