WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Bush administration launched its new effort to reach out to the American people about Iraq this week because "it was important to remind" them that the U.S.-led war "was fully justified," Secretary of State Colin Powell said Friday.

Well, I certainly hope that, by this round (what are we on now? Round 5, post-war? I've lost count), an increasing number of the public will just blow off the rhetoric the administration is trying to make us believe.

The administration's stalwart supporters will likely remain as such, but otherwise, even those who aren't paying much attention (and don't have a die-hard loyalty to Bush) will have eventually to realize that there's a severe disconnect between the administration's rhetoric and the reality in Iraq.

sounds the same to me.
That's certainly the tactic that we're seeing, yes. But I'm not sure it's going to work, at least with respect to Iraq. Folks coming home in body bags day after day and repeated requests for more funds in cash-strapped times tends to breed distrust for those who say, nevertheless, that it's going well.

So I guess I've not become 100% cynical yet.

I hope the Democrats stay on message back! MY fear is that the Democrats will get tired or whatever and not deal with the misinformation - yes, there is a lot of money behind Dubja, but with the combined efforts of the other candidates and the media covering them, the truth my be heard.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Identical letters signed by different soldiers describing their accomplishments in Iraq (news - web sites) have been appearing in newspapers across the United States.

Quote:
It was unclear who wrote the letter or organized sending it, USA Today reported. The letter-writing campaign could violate military ethics if it was intended to sway public opinion.

Quote:
"The quality of life and security for the citizens has been largely restored, and we are a large part of why that happened," the letter said. "The majority of the city has welcomed our presence with open arms."

Quote:
Six soldiers contacted by USA Today said they did not know who wrote the letter but agreed with its message. A seventh soldier said he only learned of the existence of the letter when his father congratulated him for getting "such a good letter" published in his hometown paper.

Trabot's most recent thread concerns this issue. Hey, if the soldiers aren't writing such letters themselves, the Administration might as well do it for them, eh?
