I fear that it will lead to forced vaccination.

I was just listening to a show about global health on the local public radio station here - the two doctors on the show, who had worked in international public health, suggested that a better strategy would be to be sure that the countries where the flu is occurring are well-stocked with vaccine and anti-virals to head off the beginings of a pandemic at its source.

Ahhh, but the real question is...How is this good for Halliburton? What Would Halliburton Do?

Sorry SKK, but that seems to be a bit too sensible a solution for this administration.

Not only forced vaccination, but my fear is also that if the gov starts to believe there's a "pandemic" then all our liberties will be at risk - I can see forced quarantine for sniffles because it might be the "bird flu".

I thought I heard something this morning too when he was speaking at the NIH that he wants to do something about vaccine liability because we need more drug companies making vaccines ... something about reducing the liability for vax companies when they screw up everybody with their "miracle drugs" so they can make even more of them. :

ETA: Should have read the article first ... it was in there too. They also had something about it on our local news this morning (where I heard the stuff about liability).

I get my news from on-line sources, we don't watch tv news anymore, are they reporting it there at all? Sadly, I don't think that most people see the erosion of our liberties happening right in front of them...more scary, they probably believe that it IS all for the greater good.

Of course, this came out just as news about bird flu reaching North America was released. They're holding back the news that bird flu has reached North America, and trying to seem like they're doing something pro-active before people start freaking out.

Notice how little press there is about the discovery of bird flu in NA?

The facts are these: The current H5N1 avian influenza virus has not mutated into a form that can easily infect humans, and the 60 people in the world who have died of this bird flu have done so not because this bug is on the road to mutation but because millions of birds throughout Asia have been infected, and the more birds that have it, the more likely that an occasional human bird handler will be infected.

Most human influenzas begin as bird flus, but many bird flus never change to a form that can harm us. Though flu pandemics occur on the average of three times per century, and we are clearly overdue (the last was in 1968), there is absolutely no indication that the transformation to mass human killer is about to happen. The threat is theoretical. Unfortunately, the attention it has received makes it feel like something terrible is inevitable.

“Oregano oil is a highly oxygenated phenol that creates a heat reaction in body fluids,” Ingram said in an e-mail interview. “This, along with naturally occurring oxygen, destroys the virus.”

Ingram, who has been researching oregano for 10 years, said the herb has been tested against various hostile viruses and bacteria, and observed that the extract deactivated all viruses within 20 to 30 minutes of contact.

Agreed! The bird flu appeared this summer wih just a few cases in Asia at first. If we had donated all this money to World Health Org. than there might have not been the need for this reactionary measure. Personally, I think Bush is bringing it into the news again to take the attention of Mr. Scooter's indictment..imho!

Yes. But they pretty much hit the nail on the head more often than you'd expect.
