DS lately gets into hitting me while he nurses - usually on the face. It's right there afterall.
He is 16 months and has a lot of energy, and I realize he just needs to busy himself and his little hands while he is nursing. He used to play with my hair, but it got to rough, now I always pull it back.
He used to play with my teeth, but he started to pull my lips off. So I try to turn my head if he reaches for my mouth. Now he just hits.

Is it ok to ask him once or twice to be gentle and then "close the cafe" for a few moments if he is still hitting? When I was talking this over with my dad he thought that was too manipulative. But I am not sure what to do?

My Ds is only 5 months but at first he was playing with my shirt, then he progressed to pulling my hair, ouch, and his new fetish is his hands in my mouth or pinching me. So I have started wearing a beaded necklace, wit different sized beads on it! He loves it, so far sooo good! HTH

Just wanted to say I'm right there with you mamma. DS is 13months and slaps me almost the whole time (playfully but it's annoying and sometimes hurts). I've tried talking, nursing necklaces, everything I can think of with no relief. I'll be lurking here to see what advice you get!

This is so funny both my boys did this to me slapping while nursing that is. My baby now is 11.5 mo he tends to do the slapping more if my chest is exposed more he halls off and just slaps the hay out of me whack, whack, whack, i say hey that hurts and he just keeps going I try to grab his little hands but the second I let go whack, whack, whack, I wonder what they are thinking, I have tried the nursing necklace I made a beautiful one but he just takes it and then pulls it and Whack Whack Whack,
if my shirt is loose enough he will twill the fabric around in his little hands, he has also tries to rip my mouth off which hurts I too have to turn away and catch his hand. If I nurse him in bed I have to get his feet between my legs as well or he will kick me every time. I so wonder why so many babies do this????

dd is 14 months and love sto hold stuff while we nurse. This is so much better than her sticking her hands in my mouth or pulling on my bangs. A lot of times she will latch on, then stop, jump down and run off to get a toy. Then she comes back to hold it and nurse.
