I'm trying hard to make preparations for this baby as stress free as I can (as realistically as I can, too). I've been slowly stocking up on things, purchasing furniture here and there, etc.

My baby shower is on August 10th... I'll have 4-8 weeks left before the baby is born by that point. Should I wait until after the shower before I get the majority of what I need, or should I be getting that stuff now? I don't want to be freaking out at the end.

I'm normally not a waiter, but I vote wait. 4-8 weeks is PLENTY of time to assess what you got at the shower and get what you still need. And waiting will save you money and allow your guests to get the things that you really want.

I vote to get the stuff you know you won't be getting at the shower now (such as furniture) and wait with the other stuff. I mean some items are so pricey that you just know no one will buy them for you. Unless your family is well off anyway.

That's kind of where I'm leaning... stuff like the carseat, I think I'll go ahead and get myself. Gowns and rash ointment, I'll wait until after the shower.

I kind of wonder about this question, too. I worry that I don't want too much that's mainstream (and most of the stuff on my registry is CDing, babywearing, etc. stuff), so nobody I know will buy it. Y'know? Nobody among my friends and family is very crunchy at all, and I've noticed that people want to give you what they think is best, not necessarily what you want.

Yeah, I worry about that a little too. Fortunately most of my friends are respectful of my desires, but they may either decide to get something else or not even look at my lists at all. I guess I can always exchange something if I have a real problem with it.

I wouldn't rule out the carseat or other pricey things, really. People can team up three or four people and get you that big stuff. I've had it happen more than once.

Re: mainstream stuff...that's why I register for stuff that I'd rather have than not, but not the crunchy stuff I *need*, KIWM? And hey...ToysRUs, Target, etc. all have great return policies. I've taken a cartful of stuff back after both of my showers and gotten the things that I need then.
