I thought I remember hearing when I was preggers with ds that you should not lift or carry more than 20 pounds. Am I remembering this right? I **** wear 2 year old ds ALOT ( 30lbs) and I just found out that I am expecting, should I try and hold off a few monthes?

I don't know how realistic that advice is. And isn't that just if you have some sort of risky condition? The thing is, it is so difficult to not pick your kids up so a baby carrier just seems a safer way of supporting them. I was given the okay by my midwife to lift weights with my 1st pregnancy and I was lifting pretty heavy stuff in those days. (2nd pregnancy I was home and no luxury of gym membership.)

Especially with a two-shoulder carrier that distributes the weight well, I agree that you're better off and will have less strain on your body carrying a child in a baby carrier than in arms.

Unless you're at risk of pre-term labor or have been advised by your doctor not to lift heavy weights, as long as you have the muscles for it (which you do since you have been carrying your ds) then there is absolutely no reason not to keep doing what you're doing. Especially in early pregnancy. In very late pregnancy when the relaxin starts softening up your joints, you need to be careful because it's much easier then to throw something out of alignment.

I'm 26w and still wear my 2yr old who is almost 30lbs. I use a RS and keep her on my hip. I'm going to try to wear her in a MT on my back today.

I am 16 weeks pg and I wear my 25 pound 20 month olds. I no longer wear them at the same time but I do wear them still. (I still carry them together if I need to though
)If you have any high risk factors that you are concerned about then definitely stop.

I wore ds all through my pregnancy with dd (he was 2 when she was born). Then I wore them both at the same time a lot. Baby 3 is almost here, and I still wear dd at 33 months old. Until I was 4-5 months pregnant, I would still wear ds and dd at the same time occasionally. At that point my belly was sticking out too much for it to work very well and ds was old enough not to want to be worn as much unless dh was around to help babywear while we were hiking or at some event. Dd gets tired hiking, so she always ends up being worn while we are out hiking. Although we haven't been in hiking in a few weeks as I can't handle the heat right now. I did convince her that I couldn't hike and nurse at the same time anymore because my belly stuck out too far - so she waits until we find a place to sit befoire nursing while we are hiking.

I think that the advice not to lift too much weight while pregnant must have been written by a man who worked outside the home 50 hr/week!!! (Unless serious conditions exist) it is absolutely impossible to live a normal life with kids and NOT lift weight by picking up/carrying your children!!! I have a son who will be 3 July 14th
and a 9 1/2 month old and can you believe that my chiropractor told me not to bend or twist or hold my babies???!!!! It's just absolutley absurd!!! Some men just don't get it!
