I have a question about the safety of the plastic that is used to make the 2/3/5 gallon water bottles that you refill with reverse osmosis water. Is it safe? Our city water supply is so horrid that even the doctors here in tell you to NOT drink it cause it'll do a number on your health. So we buy RO water and keep it stored in the plastic bottles. Is that a bad thing? I refilled all 3 of mine yesterday and it finally dawned on me that it might not be a good thing to do. Does anybody know?

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I try to stick with #1, 2 or 5 plastic if I am going to reuse it, not put anything acidic in it, not heat it and keep it out of sunlight. That reduces the chance of the plastic breaking down as quickly.

An option to get away from plastic is to purchase apple juice in gallon glass jars from the health food store and reuse those. They will last forever with no breaking down or leeching chemicals.
