Just wondering if maternal age has anything to do with the c/s rate. I was 28 when I had my son via c/s. How old were you when you had your first c/s?

I mean, I know that older moms are perfectly capable of delivering vaginally (my great-grandmother was 43 when she delivered her 14th child at home), but I was just wondering if younger bodies might be "better" at handling pregnancy and especially labor and delivery than older bodies.

I sometimes wonder if I would have been able to have a vaginal birth if I had been younger (not that 28 is really old, but...). So, this poll is mainly for curiousity on my part

I can't answer the poll yet, but I can tell you I'm 43, and my doctor, midwives, and I are all planning a vaginal birth. So far, there are no indications that I'll need anything else. And this is my first.

Awesome!! You can do it! Hopefully you won't need to answer this poll at all then

I was 25, but my c-section was due to pre-eclampsia.

I was 31 but I don't think it had anything to do with my age. We had malpresentation due to twins having lack of space. Even then we tried vaginal and almost got it but ended in section.

I was 31, but I don't think age was a factor in my c/s - I think hasty induction by an OB who wanted to deliver me and go home was more of a factor.

Hope so! A lot of women in my family have had kids into their 40s without a c-section, so I'm hoping it's not age-related at all.

My first --- AND LAST --- c-section was at 33. My first homebirth at 35.

Head over to the vbac forum for more background. Regardless of mama's age, it is the cascade of interventions that cause the currently unacceptable rate of cs.

I was 20. VBAC was just shy of 23 and then another c/s (not planned) at 26.

I was 24 - definitely not an age issue. I think that some of the pressure I've had to schedule repeats has been age related, though. (It took me a long time to carry a second baby to term and dd is 10 years and 2 months younger than her brother. She arrived a month before my 35th birthday.)

My SIL is 24 and had to have an EMG CS for her second child. She had a tear in her uterus (delivered baby 8 weeks early)
