I was having lunch with my closest friend today, and we talked about my 2 recent m/c's. She reminded me, after I had DD (c-section) my incision became staph infected. I had to have the wound packed and drained 4 times a day for 6 weeks until it finally healed. My ob was always ready to surgically cut away the infection, but because my husband was so diligent in taking care of my wound, I never had to have the surgery (thankfully!). Now I am wondering if there is a connection between my infection and my inability to stay pg. I realize 2 m/c's may not signal a problem, but what if it does? Has anyone here heard of such a connection between a c-section infection and m/c? Thanks - Tuscany (PS - I know I *should* ask my ob, but his stock answer to me and hubby is that we are "older", and therefore should expect problems. I am 41, DH is 53. And yes - I am looking for a new ob!!)

My first c-section incision was also infected but I believe it did not get down to the uterus. I would imagine any impact from an infection to implantation (and miscarriage) would only happen if your uterus was affected by the infection. Unrelated to the infection, if your embryos implanted on or near your uterine scar, this can possibly cause a m/c.

My first c-section was a crash emergency section and I had to pack and dress my infected incision for several weeks afterward. I have since had two pregnancies, neither of which ended in m/c. It's just so hard to tell when your risk of m/c is already 25% without any complicating factors.

Good luck!
