One thing that made me apprehensive about switching to CD'ers was the stink and build up issue. After pouring over dozens of CD websites it seems that all these issues centered around the soap you use to clean your diapers, and so I got to thinking (and researching). It just boils down to the fact that I am not comfortable using a tablespoon of mild detergent to "disinfect" my diapers. I have come to the decision to use a small amount of bleach every couple of weeks (not all the time). It literally only takes a cap full of bleach in a large wash to disinfect, not the half cup some of you may be visualizing.

So for those who use bleach, what kind do you use, and how much do you use it? I've heard a lot of about the gentle care bleach, but when I looked at it in the store it had a funky fragrance. Is there a "free and clear" version of gentle care? Or is it just gunna smell like flowers no matter what?

I think in order to disinfect it has to be the ordinary chlorine bleach. I just use a generic brand from the grocery store and a very tiny amount every few weeks, probably just over a tablespoon. I have bleach for colors too but it doesn't say that it disinfects. I make sure to do a couple extra rinses to make sure all the bleach is out.

According to research the only one "approved" for disinfecting is the regular bleach not the ultimate care or Clorox2, but I'll admit I use the ultimate care (they smell doesn't stay its rinses clean) http://www.clorox.com/solutions_ultimatecare.php the active ingredients used to disinfect in regular bleach are also in the ultimate care unlike say clorox 2 which is a non clorine based "bleach". My uneducated guess is it hasn't been around long enough to be considered a labled disinfectant.. I used about two table spoons like 1/4 capfull in every load and I double rinse. HTH
