I'm in the thinking stages of setting up a group of parents/consumers to be a support network for Special Beginnings Birth and Women's Center. We would act as a foundation so that people could make donations to the birth center and receive tax credits. We would be involved in fund raising for special projects and maybe even doing some hands on projects when needed, such as painting.<br>

I am in Rockville, so I don't know either if I can be of much help but I will do anything I can. I had my daughter at Special Breginnings in September and that was the most wonderful experience of my life.

I'm having a planning meeting with the director of SB in a few weeks so we can get our ducks in a row. I'll let you all know how we are going to proceed. I think the first thing we'll be doing is a mailing to let people know about the foundation and give them an opportunity to become a member.<br>
I welcome any fundraising ideas you all might have!

Not trying to butt in, but just wanted to say that you should make sure (if you haven't already- you may have already thought of this) you speak with an attorney or someone who specializes in setting up this type of thing. The IRS has become very strict with its oversight of nonprofits/foundations, particularly those that qualify for special tax treatment. You don't want to get partially into this and then find out the hard way that the foundation or nonprofit is not following all the required rules (I had a client who had this happen to her and she found out when one of her donors got a call from the IRS).<br><br>
You may know a ton about this already, so sorry if that is the case, but it often isn't that easy to set this kind of thing up from a tax point of view....
