Please help! All of my dipes are stained! What am I not doing right with this
machine?!

Here is my routine with 2 tbs of cheer:

Heavy Duty Wash on HOT
I select: Prewash, 2nd rinse

Today I even did a rinse and spin on cold water before my normal wash.

I'm losing my patience!

What works for you?

My sprayer should be here tomorrow-but my DD is EBF.

I have more trouble with breastfed poo than I do from my 2yob. I have a Whirlpool Duet frontloader and I add water. I find that the diapers suck up every drop of water with room to spare. This fights the buildup issue. I don't usually battle stains. But I do spray them as well as I can. Poo does not go in the diaper pail.

I choose normal cycle, prewash, second rinse and also hot/cold water. I did find via this wonderful group, someone recommended adding more water. When I did that, it came out even cleaner (nothing in second rinse). As it's filling up, just pull the soap part out and add more water. I did this for the past two washes and it appears to help. I did it just during the 1st rinse and prewash.

I use 1-2 tsp tide (not HE) and a little vinegar (really soft water). I put the tide into the washer with the diapers for the prewash cycle and I put the vinegar where the detergent goes.

I do presoak (wet pail) the stained ones in totally toddler. I like the way it smells. So far, not a single stained diaper.

You may want to just line dry them if they are really stained.

One of my three had the most incredible staining BF poop....it's not always innocent and sweet!

I always do a normal cold wash, and hit 2nd rinse. (Poop is a protein stain, so it will set in hot water.) Then I do the sanitary cycle. I still have had some staining on prefolds from the really nasty poops, but they fade fairly quickly. They always smell wonderfully clean regardless.

HTH!

I have a Duet HT, so I presume the cycles work the same way...

if you hit "prewash" on a hot cycle, evidently you get a hot prewash, which is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I do a cold quick wash, then a whitest whites. I keep a bottle of spray'n'wash on the toilet and hit the poopy dipes with that while they're in the potty pail. I don't get too many stains, but when I do, they sun right out.

Yep, what Jennifer said. A quick cold cycle first. Actually, mine's not quick because I add a soak. Normal wash cold with soak. Whitest whites wash. I don't have any stains. Good luck. It takes a while to get down the routine that works for YOU.
Your sprayer will probably help too...

no matter what my wash routine was with exclusively breast fed poops i had stains. some more than others but all noticable none the less. we did a lot of sunning. they come RIGHT out, unlike toddler poop stains. i get the occassional stain now, but mostly my dipes are stain free.

i rinse all poop off of my dipes, every last bit of it, before it goes in the pail. then i do a cycle on whitest whites or sanitary. i add the presoak/prewash option but i DO NOT add detergent until the dipes have aggitated some. this way i can see if there was any residual detergent in the dipes. then i add literally a teaspoon of detergent to the dispenser. i then run extra wash/ rinse cycles until there are no suds and no cloudy water left. usually only one but sometimes more. every smells clean, is stain free, no stinky hemp...................

works for us

I also had stains in those early EBF days... nothing I tried worked, except the sun. And I must say that there was something very therapeutic about hanging up a bunch of gorgeous fluff and watching them wave at me in the breeze.

I finally just accepted that my milk + ds's poo = stains. Now that he's older, I have no problems at all. It will be interesting to see if I have the same issue with #2...

Sorry I can't be more help. Spray N Wash and Bac Out and maybe Zout are good things to try too...

thanks for all of your routines. i will try them ALL!!

For those who spray their dipes...forgive my ignorance here, but do you rinse poo, then stain treat? obviously it might not work to put a stain treat directly on the poo right? Clueless!

And Danaalex, how do you put detergent in after the cycle has started?

Obviously, someone (me) hasn't read her manual!

I'm new to CDing and I really appreciate all of your help!

ETA: Thank God for the sun! It really is a miracle worker at getting out these stains!

Here's my HE3T routine:
Express wash on cold (no detergent)
Whitest Whites cycle w/extra rinse (1/3 scoop of Tide HE)
Express wash on cold (no detergent)
I never had a problem w/breastfed poops staining, I'm wondering if you're using enough detergent. I know a lot of people swear by the little or no soap routine, but some machines really need it. Just make sure to rinse well. And I do find that the mini-shower makes all the difference since Noah started solids (blech!).
