I started a thread in the Breastfeeding forum, but it has turned into more of a question on fertility (see post #12). Would some of the experts here mind chiming in?

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=829679

Thank you!

I read through the thread and I'm now wondering if
1. you are interested in learning more about fertility awareness to allow child spacing so you can breastfeed exclusively for a certain amount of time?
or 2. you are unsure if fertility awareness is right for you because it didn't seem to work in the past?

I am no expert myself, I'm here trying to figure it all out. I do have experience with bf while pregnant and that is a challenge. my supply did go way down, even when I nursed through and then tandemed. We have achieved 27 mo gap between each of our 3dc and that has worked for us for bf. by 19o they were eating enough solids and nursing like active toddlers do and so pregnancy at that point was not too much a burden. My first nursed through and my second weaned while I was preg. at about 2yr.

So, if you want to learn more about FAM, I encourage you to read TCOYF as well and start charting. Counting days from your period does not really qualify as charting. And if you are unsure of your cervical fluid (you posted smthg about that) then I'm wondering if you are checking regularly? For me, once I did internal checks for a month and did it every day, I said wow! My body has been doing this every month since I was 13!!!! How the heck did I not know that !!! Generally the cm is there, we just need to pay attention to it. Even just that and avoiding those days is enough for a lot of mamas who are open to more babes but waiting a bit. I'm taking my temps too because I'm only 13 mo post partum and looking at a #4 babe means -- well, that might be the last for us, so .... it's complicated. And again, wow! my temps go up and down each month like a champ! I now know I have ovulated rather early the last few cycles and if that usual for me, then I now understand how dc#3 was conceived the month before we were going to start 'trying'. Day 14 is a joke around here. By then I'm almost in the clear!

I really encourage you to do some reading. It is still shocking to me that I got this far in life without a deeper understanding of my own body's mechanics. I'm not gonna ask why they don't teach this in schools, but why didn't my mama tell me about it? Aha, she didn't know! Be certain I'll be telling my dd.

That's a touchy thread to respond to. I'll be blunt-

I have to wonder if avoiding pregnancy isn't a better option just for a few months than getting pregnant and having to give your baby substandard food? Is that really ok?
