I visited Maui in January a few years ago, and camped at Hosmer's Grove and also the other National Park campground, Kipahulu. It was kind of cold at night at Hosmer's Grove. You probably wouldn't need a super warm sleeping bag, but you'd want a pretty warm one. And you'd probably want to take more than just a sweater for hiking up at the crater. Kipahulu is down at sea level, so you shouldn't have to worry about getting too cold there. That was a nice place to camp. It's probably where I got dengue fever, but I don't think there's any dengue fever on Maui right now.
