My DS has been a little rashy lately, so I'm trying to let him go coverless as much as possible when we're at home. However, I am normally a snappi user, which I know you're not supposed to use coverless. But I'm TERRIBLE with pins. I end up pricking my fingers all the time.

Cover a bar of soap with a simple piece of fabric, and stick the pins in there when you aren't using them. They'll slide through the cloth far more easily- less resistance- fewer pricks.

I had a pin issue as well, but I have found that I really like them on bigger babies since they are pretty toddler proof.

You really have to get them snug enough that there isn't much of the pin left, if that makes sense. It takes a while to figure it out (pinning is an art ). The bar of soap works great, as does running them along your scalp before pinning. Do you have good, all metal pins?

How many layers of cloth are you pinning through? Is there a different fold or wrapping technique you could use to reduce the layers? I used to struggle with pins until someone taught me how to wrap a triangle nappy so you only pinned through about a quarter of the layers.

I learned to pin from studying, really STUDYING, the pictures at Green Mountain Diapers.

All the above, plus... what kind of pins are you using? We were using cheap plastic-head pins that were actually part of a game at the baby shower my friends threw me... imagine our surprise when we got good Dritz locking metal-head pins and they just slid through the diapers LIKE BUTTAH.

But still, there's been a learning curve. And I have to say, both DH and are are pretty darn good at it at this point. Used to be a royal finger-stabbing mess 'round these parts, though.
