I'm in the metrowest area, and will (if all goes smoothly) be giving birth at the Birthplace in Wellesley. Does anyone know of or can anyone recommend a doula in that area? Thanks for any help you can give.

Randi Bigelow, who works a lot at the Birthplace and gives birth classes at Newton Wellesley, is awesome, wonderful, knowledgeable, and amazing!!!!!!! PM me if you can't get her contact info through the Birthplace.

Good luck and have a great rest-of-pregnancy and birth!

Ooops! I can't believe I forgot to add which state I'm in. It's Massachusetts.

Thanks, lovinglife, for letting me know about Randi.

I delievered at the Birthplace in February with the help of a wonderful doula named Sundyna (sounds like sun- deena) Beaven (rhymes with heaven). Ours was her first birth, but it felt like she'd been doing it for years. She managed to be incredbly helpful without intruding on the experience for my husband (or my mother), and kept the three of us sane. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post her info (is it like advertising?) so contact me if you want her number.

Randi's great too. We took her Natural Childbirth class. We were interested in hiring her to be our doula, but she was booked by the time we decided to get one.

Also, BJ at the Birthplace might be able to put you in touch with someone.

Good luck!
Thanks, Becky. I sent you a pm, because I would like to contact Sundyna (if it's okay with her). You can pm me with her info, if you have time--i would appreciate it. I talked to Randi, but she is booked when I'd need her. She does sound wonderful, though!

Also, I will talk to BJ or one of the other midwives when I go in (I'm having my first appointment in two weeks--nothing like waiting till the third trimester to dump your ob and find a midwife!). I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with your doula, and it sounds like you liked the Birthplace, too. Thanks again!

Golden, I pm'ed you back. Thanks!

Everyone else, thank you for your recommendations! I finally found a doula I think I'll be very happy with, and now I just can't wait to give birth. I'm so excited! And still have a good 9 weeks to go....which is both way too long to wait to meet my baby, and way too short to get ready for the holidays!
