I've just finished reading Sugar Blues and in one chapter he talks about Food Combining. A few years I followed the Hay food combining for a while, and now I read in the NT cookbook that it's a load of nonsense, which I'm OK about. But in the Sugar book he talks about not eating dairy with certain things and not eating sugar with anything...

Does anyone know anything about this? Is there any basis to it all? Are there any good, recent books on the subject?

Thanks.

I am not familiar with thebook you are referring to, but I know that some Chinese have very strict rules about what foods should and should not be combined. Maybe someone will have more info on this because I am quite ignorant on the subject. My BIL's friend was talking about how to combine heaty foods with cold food (which did not always mean the temp of the food). I forgot alot of what he was telling me, though.

Yes, Melissa, thanks. I think it was an Eastern theory of some kind. Perhaps there is more than one. That's a good point though. Probably just with that I could find something useful on the Internet.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize Sugar Blues talks about Eastern ideas regarding food combining. In that case, I've read The Tao of Health, Sex, and Longevity : A Modern Practical Guide to the Ancient Way by Daniel Reid; this book spend a great deal of time on food combining. It was all of little overwhelming, and while I find it intriguing, I haven't attempted to eat like this. Again, it's a bit older (1989), so it's probably not what you're looking for. Wish I could be more help! Here's the Amazon link.

Fit for Life is another book about food combining. Recently I've had a bit of trouble with bloating after eating, and I find that when I properly combine my foods (no carbohydrates with proteins) I feel so much better. I also try to eat only fruit in the morning so it's on an empty stomach and that also makes me feel great, I just go through way too much fruit for my budget so I don't do it every day.

One thing I like about eating not eating carbs and proteins together is that I am forced to fill up my meal with lots of different vegetables. So without really even trying, I eat a lot more veggies than I usually do.

I'm definitely not an expert in this area though, it's just something I've been experimenting with in the last few weeks. Hope that helps!

I am very big into food combining. I started with the Tao book mentioned by kvjudge. It is a little "weird" for some (but I dig it:). I started to follow the food rules over 2 years ago and have experienced awesome health since. I won't go into my long story, but the 15 second version is that I used to have severe back pain 24/7 and now I have none thanks to going organic, food combining, and identifying food allergies. Now if you want a friendly food-combining book to get, try Marilu Henner. I got her cookbook and love it and all the recipes are good food combos. She has great general tips too. I have been very impressed and I have made the recipes for people who don't care about food combo rules and they loved them too.
