can the cord blood be used to fill up the card for the blood grouping test? I have a friend who would like to do this without the heal stick if possible.

yes, but I really advise using three cards to ensure accuracy. the cards are notorious for having false results because of individual use. (I saw multiple false results during my apprenticeship!)

I send cord blood to the lab for accurate testing. if you're considering Rhogam, typing the cord blood isn't something I'm willing to risk results on at all.

I agree. I just send the cord blood into the lab.

One midwife I know uses the eldon card, and if it say's baby's positive, she is willing to do RhoGam based on that (assuming the parents want RhoGam, of course.).

But if it's negative, she always sends the blood into the lab to confirm before forgoing RhoGam.
