Can anyone part with a baby scoby? I've not been able to brew up some tea in a long while and I think I need a new kombucha mushroom. I've left my scoby out, in a covered jar, and I think I need to start fresh.

Xenabyte, I got a great one from you a while ago. Will you have one ready again soon? I'll gladly pay shipping, etc.

Thanks,
Laura

Oooh! I'll trade a SCOBY for kefir grains (non-dairy, preferrably, but can you use grains that WERE once dairy as non-dairy?)! I am going to visit my parents on Friday, but I have one ready to ship. If you could send one in a form that my husband could tend until the 22nd or delay sending until then...

Who wants to???

: I have never heard of the term, scoby, and was totally confused. I'm assuming you are all talking about babies, no?

I have tons of babies and would love to find good homes for them. I am only confused on how to send them. Unfortunately I am not in the market for kefir grains right now, but I would be able to send them for shipping, b/c the poor things are just getting thrown out. Oh, I might need to charge for the price of a mason jar, unless I can find some bigger jars for free.

That is exciting!! So how big is the bag, a quart I'm thinking would work well.....and do you double bag it, or just put it in the padded envelope. I'm assuming you ship priority, no?

Emma, you can use milk kefir grains as water grains, but they won't multiply. They'll keep working until they die off, without multiplying so you can stockpile new ones. My grains are milk. I'd be happy to trade, if that's ammenable to you

I start with a quart bag yes, then the double is a gallon bag..I usually put a few paper towels around the quart bag and then slip into the gallon bag and then into the padded envelope. I don't typically ship priority but you can. our post office is slow so Idon't bother with the extra money..hehe.. oh yeah you want to make sure and put at least 1/2 cup of starter tea in with the scoby.

Let's do it! I'm going to the post office tomorrow - PM me your address. Obviously I'm new to DIY kefir! But excited to learn...
