My daughter took this picture to remind me to ask all you crafty ladies what to do about her doll.

My cat was caught chewing on our adorable Kathy Kruse Waldorf doll's face. She's a little 7" doll with mohair hair. Not sure what steps to take next. We have 4 other similar dolls, and this one has the sweetest, softest hair of them all, and we miss her! I have experience darning some knit material, but never in such a visible spot, and the repair can strain other parts of the fabric, but I'm still thinking fair-flesh colored thread and a slender needle? Or not?

I would try removing the hair- our waldorf dolls have a crocheted cap that the hair is looped into (like a latch hook rug). That crocheted cap is sewn on and could be removed very carefully. Then I would recover the head with fresh fabric . I would probably completely cover the existing face and stitch the new "skin" on to the neck- assuming there is no damage below the neck. Then I would add the new face and sew the hair back on. Poor thing!

I looked for seams in the doll's head, and I discover that the face and the head are in one piece. There is a seam in the back of the head, obscured by the mass of hair, and a seam at the neck.

What about stretching a new piece of fabric over the whole face and stitching it close to the hairline? You'd have to embroider the features of the face on the new fabric...

Thanks for asking. No, it sits in the drawer. I've been busy, but I still am thinking about my options. Since November, the holidays have intervened, birthdays, Girl Scout cookie sales, it's dropped in priority, but I still love to hear responses.
