Sorry if this is a dumb question... I saw a garbage can at WalMart yesterday that I thought would be a good diaper pail. It's white plastic (Rubbermaid) and about hip high. The body is cylandrical, and the lid is sort of a half sphere with a swinging lidded opening. It's not airtight... could I use it for a diaper pail? Anyone else have a can like this you are using as a diaper pail?

It looked like this but was a little smaller:

My "diaper pail" has a swinging lid - it swings even more than yours does. I think it is great for dipes - IMHO, a little air is a good thing for diaper pails - I think then the smell just gradually gets out and you don't even notice it. With an airtight lid, everytime you open it you are going to get knocked over by the smell!

One thing I have noticed (and I have NO explanation for why this is true), if I don't put a pail liner in it, it STINKS! If I do, no problem. Maybe the PUL soaks up the odors or something?

Anyway, my answer is yes, that will be fine for your dipes.

XOXO

ETA: My pail is the bottom one on this page, also bought at Wal*mart http://www.sterilite.com/Category.ht...ctCategory=56#

Why not? If you like it, and if it is roomy enough for you, just go ahead
My "Diaper Pail" for example is a tall K-mart kitchen trash can (it was 7 dollars) with a Ikea nylon liner with strings(about 2 dollars) inside. I like having a liner because I don't need to wash the trash can all the time and because I can close it if the diapers are stinking too much.
